David won the international design award for his 'Puzzle' clip-frame holder at the 58th annual National Stationery Show, held in New York in May 2004. The frame holder (shown right) was chosen for the Best New Product Award in the Indulgences (Fine Lines & Luxury) section for its unique yet simple clip-together system. A simple design The Puzzle frame holder is made of two solid machined bars of nickel-plated brass that are held together magnetically to create a stable frame support for clip-frames or any frameless picture or photograph. On his success at the show, David had this to say: "I was planning to visit New York and the show to do some market research for my range of writing instruments, but the exhibition organisers offered me a stand, and I thought it was probably the best way to test the market. I designed the frame holder last year, but had not exhibited it before, and had only sold a few from my shop in Suffolk Parade." 58th Annual National Stationary Show The Stationery Show presented awards recognising new and innovative merchandise among five distinctive sections - Presents, Celebrate, Take Note, Home Work and Indulgences. And David's entry went up against some tough opposition as there were nearly 300 entries in all of the five categories. Judges selected the winners based on each product's innovative design, creative use of textures and colours, unique shape and form, and creative use of materials or construction. His award winning clip-frame shows that simplicity is often the best policy for innovative design.
