 One of the town's finest assets for tourism is now blighted with mud, white vans and lorries, according to local residents.

The West approach to the Pittville Pump Room is now a sea of mud and getting into and out of the Grade 1 listed park and pump room is a lottery. The road is frequently blocked by articulated lorries, and a huge yellow fork lift truck loading/unloading materials. School children from Pittville School are forced to dodge these vehicles as they try to get to and from school. Visitors are now unable to park as the road is full of tradesmen vehicles and the residents are subjected to constant noise and inconvenience. All a far cry from the sensitive "Conservation Area" environment that is supposed to surround such a historic monument. After losing a long fought battle to stop a local property developer demolishing a bungalow and replacing it with a large apartment block, the residents are now stuck with a road that looks more like a bomb site than one of Cheltenham's show pieces. The council was forced to grant permission for the development once the builder appealed the council's decision to refuse permission to the High Court. Now Cheltenham's finest Spa building is paying the price of development.  But maybe more executive apartments starting at £390,000 will help the housing shortage in the town. |
