Cirencester's City Bank is a large hidden area of grassland in the Watermoor area of town - about two acres of land. It should be a picturesque place to be with the river running one side of it and on the other side a raised path. Instead it is unkempt and nothing more than an eyesore. What used to be a nice place to wander and relax has changed. Families can no longer have a nice picnic, allowing their children to play on the swings and slides because they were removed a couple of years ago. Now the 'bank' is covered in graffiti, scruffy trees and straggly bushes. But worst of all there is dog mess nearly everywhere you walk. I wouldn't call it safe either. Many people have been assaulted whilst using the park as a result of there being no floodlit lighting for the evenings and no CCTV. Footpaths One annoyance is the state of one of the access footpaths which used to be a railway line. Walking down there you can see how disgusting it is with dog mess covering the whole footpath and is very difficult to avoid. Why can't dog owners be responsible enough to pick it up, considering there is a dog bin at the end of the path? The trees down there are awful and need to be trimmed back to make way to see the lovely view. Suggestions Most importantly lighting to make it safe. | | Kelly Archer |
And I would also suggest a nice tarred pathway because at the moment it is just a walkeay that was been worn down by feet and covered with a few stones. This problem really needs to be addressed, I hate going down the path but find it really hard to avoid as I personally use it as a shortcut. I think the first job would be to add another dog bin as at present there is only one. I would also suggest cleaning the mess up and sorting the trees and bushes out. But, most importantly lighting to make it safe. ......................................... If you would like to comment on this or any other story in this section get in touch at [email protected] |
