Jon Meyer got the gliding bug from his parents, both of whom are glider pilots. He's been flying since he was a teenager and thinks it's something which has changed his life for the better. Gliding is flying without an engine, using the energy in the air to stay airborne. They can go pretty fast, around 170 mph, and can travel great distances - the world record around 3,000 kilometres. They attain fantastic heights too, typically reaching between 5,000 and 20,000 feet. It's an exciting past-time and Jon has had many fantastic adventures, one of which was gliding in the mountains near Rome. For Jon, gliding is as close as it gets to being like a bird ...
