Taking his stage name of Dr John from a Louisiana voodoo doctor of the 1800's, Malcolm John Rebennack Jr. is a well known New Orleans blues man and pianist who first began performing in the 50s. He gained solo recognition with his 1968 psychedelic R&B debut Gris-Gris, which has since been praised by contemporary critics for its inventive take on the New Orleans sound. His move towards funk came in the seventies with In the Right Place, his most notable album which featured lyrical contributions from Bob Dylan and Bette Midler on Right Place, Wrong Time. With a career spanning five decades, Dr John brings his rollicking New Orleans party to The West Holts stage.
