'Deshojo' makes a stunning small tree which adds interest to the garden for months on end. its five-lobed leaves are a brilliant shade of shrimp pink when they ufurl in spring, turning to green during summer, and finally scarlet in autumn. Like other Japanese maples, it needs a sunny or partially shaded position which is protected from cold winds. The soil should be moist but well-drained. It is suitable for growing in a large container, using John Innes No 3 compost, but must be kept well watered.
