Shrub rose

A fine and very hardy English shrub rose, this was bred partly from the old Portland variety 'Madame Knorr' and introduced in 1986. It appreciates rich soil with a good mulch annually, and is best placed towards the back of a mixed border where its slightly bare lower stems can be disguised. The fragrance is outstanding, and the flowers superb, with fat, pink, eye-catching buds opening into large cup-shaped blooms with the petals arranged in a clear spiral pattern. It will flower continuously all summer with occasional feeding. As a shrub rose, it is best pruned in late summer, after flowering has finished. Prune most stems lightly. To encourage young, vigorous growth, cut back a few of the oldest stems each year. The Royal Horticultural Society has given it its Award of Garden Merit (AGM).
