Its serrated edged strawberry-like leaves and 2.5cm (1in) strawberry-red flowers in bright red, make this a favourite for informal planting. It forms a low-spreading clump that looks good in a sunny cottage garden border or raised bed where drainage is less than perfect plants are short-lived. It looks good with Hebe pimeleoides 'Quicksilver' which has pewter-coloured foliage and enjoys similar conditions. The Royal Horticultural Society have given it their Award of Garden Merit.
