Holly

Despite its name, 'Silver Queen' is actually a male variety of holly. This means that it is primarily grown for its striking variegated foliage as, unlike female varieties, it doesn't produce berries. It makes a dense, upright tree that is quite slow-growing. Like all common holly varieties, it is a robust plant, ideal for hedges and screens, both inland and by the sea, but also makes a good specimen shrub. The Royal Horticultural Society has given it its prestigious Award of Garden Merit (AGM) in recognition of its outstanding excellence.
