Geums are valuable for bringing bright colours to the spring border before the main flowering season gets under way. The variety 'Mrs J Bradshaw', with its nodding clusters of semi-double, rich scarlet flowers on rather upright stems, is a favourite of cottage gardens and informal displays. This variety works well with other spring flowering favourites like aquilegias, team the two together with the spotted or silvery foliage of pulmonaria or lamium for a natural display in a border or wild corner. The Royal Horticultural Society has given it the Award of Garden Merit (AGM).
