Foxglove

This native European woodland plant appears in many guises, some dwarf and others very tall, usually in shades of pink and red. This cultivated form has pure white flowers that are particularly beautiful in evening light as they appear to glow. These plants are attractive to bees and other insects, so they're an ideal addition to a wildlife garden. Foxgloves are usually biennial plants, meaning that they'll only flower once every other year, but if the stem is cut back promptly after flowering it's possible to make them flower every year. The plant looks great at the back of a border where the pure white colour lifts the eye to the furthest reaches of the garden.
