Rose

This is a new English rose from breeder David Austin that combines the vigour and repeat flowering of a modern rose and the scent of an old one. The medium-sized flowers - the scent has a hint of lemon - are rose-pink, gradually fading at the edges to light pink, and eventually reveal the yellow stamens in the centre. Growth is tall and slightly arching, making it a good candidate for informal planting inside a strong structure. The name refers to Horace Walpole's house, a small villa on the River Thames, which he turned into a Gothic castle. Prune to get rid of from one- to two-thirds of the stems in February.
