'Call Red' is a smallish, new front-of-border floribunda (introduced in 2006 at the Hampton Court Flower Show) that has a nice mix of shiny green leaves and lightly scented orange and pink flowers, which keep appearing right through summer. Alternatively, grow it around the edge of a circular island bed with stronger, more dominant plants in the centre. Also try alternating it with similarly sized reds (for example, 'Trumpeter') and yellows ('Glenfiddich'). Cut back in February by just over half, forcing up plenty of new spring growth.
