"Our garden was inspired by Hadlow College's passionate commitment to sustainability and bio-diversity that is reflected throughout every curriculum area. It's a significant endorsement of the RHS 'Front Gardens' campaign which revealed that in London alone the equivalent of 5,500 football pitches of garden space were already lost in favour of car parking.
"Our garden proves that its possible to park a car and retain garden space. The use of 'ordinary' to create something 'different' is reflected in our choice of materials such as the inclusion of industrial grating. We took great care to source and select all the materials in an environmentally sensitive manner. The permeable paths are crushed, recycled concrete and brick and the planting concentrates on drought-tolerant, wildlife-friendly plants that encourage biodiversity. It's an example we hope others will be inspired to follow."
