Design inspiration "The theme of our garden is cork and was inspired by seeing the work of two furniture designers who use cork as their signature material. Aware of the threat posed to the Mediterranean cork woods we wanted to raise awareness of the importance these bio-diverse landscapes play in the region. To demonstrate cork's potential as a garden material a cork bench and possibly the world's largest cork bowl will be central features in the garden.
"Designed as a stylish, intimate outdoor urban space, the garden echoes the colours and qualities of cork. A sloping wall is shaped like the harvested cork bark of Quercus suber - the cork oak tree and coloured the vivid burnt orange of the stripped trunks." | | Designers, Louise Cummins and Caroline De Lane Lea |
