A Highland Retreat

A Highland Retreat

Design inspiration

Silver Flora medal "We wanted to encapsulate our love of Scotland and its countryside in a courtyard garden - the first Scottish garden at Chelsea - and encourage people to grow Scottish native plants. We were particularly inspired by the Perthshire countryside and Little Sparta, the late Ian Hamilton Finlay's garden with its fascinating, often amusing and intellectual letter carvings sitting harmoniously in a natural Scottish countryside setting.

"We prefer traditional gardens at home, with a modern and humurous twist. We think that gardens should not be too serious and should be about plants to provide variety of smell, colour, shape, views, texture, growing with their owner rather than giving instant gratification."

Catherine Jago - co-designer of A Highland Retreat
