LaBeouf In The Dark
Shia LaBeouf is stepping into Dark Fields, a creepy thriller based on the 2002 novel by Alan Glynn. It revolves around a failed novelist who is given ultimate 'smart pill', greedily swallows it and ends up paying a hellish cost for his newfound scribbling prowess. Ghost writing the latest book from Katie Price perhaps? (Shudder.) The script is being penned by Hairspray writer Leslie Dixon who bought the rights herself.

Calling the shots will be Neil Burger, the man behind The Illusionist.
Astin & Huston In The Forest
Sean Astin, Giovanni Ribisi, Ron Perlman and Anjelica Huston have all entered into Spirit Of The Forest. That's an independently produced CG-animated 'eco-fairytale' partly funded by a Spanish company. Makes you want to join hands around the world and sing, doesn't it? Astin and Ribisi play gophers whose home is threatened when Huston's evil businesswoman plans to build a road. Perlman will play a tree. Surely a role better suited to Keanu Reeves?

Astin explains, "In Lord Of The Rings, my favourite element in the story was the Ents, these massive trees getting cut down that fought for their own survival; in Spirit, the trees also come to life." Ah. Not a good fit for Keanu Reeves then.
Snyder Goes Ga-Hoole
Zack Snyder is swapping 300 Spartans for Guardians Of Ga'Hoole. It's another CG spectacular, this time aimed at the kids. The story unfolds in the Forest of Tyto where Barn Owls live in peace until their kingdom is threatened by an evil developer with plans to destroy their home. Um. Does anyone else feel like they've just dropped through a crack in the space time continuum?

The script was written by John Orloff (A Mighty Heart) and John Collee (Master And Commander) who will probably end up suing the Spanish.
Grant Is HangingOut…
Richard E Grant, Carrie-Anne Moss, Janeane Garofalo and Jenna Elfman have signed up for (take a breath…) HangingOutHookingUpFallingInLove. It's a romantic comedy about a newly separated father who must learn how to play the modern dating game with assistance from his teenage son. With such a poor grasp of basic grammar we can only assume this involves cheap txt messaging. ;o)

Indie filmmaker Barra Grant will pick up the megaphone this week, directing from her own script.
Casino Caper Cashes In
George Clooney isn't feeling the love. His sporting romance Leatherheads opened in a dismal sixth place at the UK box office with just half-a-million of your pounds Sterling. It was real-life casino caper 21 that hit the jackpot, taking $3.2m (£1.6m) and all the glory. We're guessing the Las Vegas tourist board is about to do bumper business as well…

Across the pond, filmgoers have mostly been watching Prom Night. It must have been a big football weekend or something as the Brittany Snow vehicle took $22.7m (£11.5m) for the No.1 spot. Whoops, we mentioned football. Sorry, George.
