 | | MGM Buys Ludlum With an eye on the success of the Bourne spy franchise, MGM has snapped up movie rights to another Robert Ludlum thriller. Denzel Washington is attached to star in The Matarese Circle, Ludlum's 1979
cold war tale, according to Variety.
The book tells the story of rival spies from the CIA and the KGB working together to bring down an international crime syndicate. But if the Bourne adaptations are anything to go by, don't expect the movie to stick too closely to its inspiration. | | | | Heston Dies Screen legend Charlton Heston died on Saturday night at his home in Beverley Hills. He was 84.
Heston's Mount Rushmore-like features saw him cast as many of the greatest figures in history. He will probably be best remembered as a commanding Moses in The Ten Commandments, but later in his career he made a successful switch to science fiction, starring in such classics as Planet of the Apes and Soylent Green. "No one could ask for a fuller life than his", his family said in a statement. "No man could have given more to his family, to his profession, and to his country". | | | | Hornblower Plays Blair Welsh actor Ioan Gruffud will play Tony Blair in W, Oliver Stone's movie about the life of US president George W Bush. Gruffud, who played Hornblower in the UK TV series, has found success across the pond as bendy stretchy Mr Fantastic in Fantastic Four. And if anyone should play our former PM, it's a guy who can stretch himself into any shape to suit the circumstances.
According to Hollywood Reporter, Thandie Newton has also joined the cast, playing Bush's National Security Adviser Condoleeza Rice. Josh Brolin is playing the man himself. | | | | Maguire Hops To Rabbit Spider-Man Tobey Maguire is set to star in Hungry Rabbit Jumps, a dramatic thriller from Endgame Entertainment. Maguire plays a long eared superhero who can leap hutches in a single bound. Nah, just kidding, apparently the story is in the same vein as David Fincher's twisty thriller The Game. And look how well that did.
According to Variety, Maguire recently wrapped up Brothers, a love triangle tale co-starring Jake Gyllenhaal and Natalie Portman. | | | | Mendes Hires Collette American Beauty director Sam Mendes has nabbed Toni Collette to star in his latest, untitled movie. Collette will play a college prof in the film, which is described as a relationship comedy, althougn that doesn't exactly narrows it down.
According to Hollywood Reporter the cast also includes John Krasinski and Maya Rudolph (we've never heard of them either), and the script was written by novelist David Eggers and his wife Vendela Vida. | |
