AND IN OTHER NEWS...
PETER O'TOOLE will receive an Honorary Oscar - AKA Award For Still Being Alive - at this year's ceremony. The 70-year-old Irish thesp has received seven best actor nominations, but never got his hands on a Golden Baldie. Expect the "Lawrence of Arabia" star to give a self-deprecating, possibly abusive, speech on 23rd March.

THE INDIE-FLAVOURED Sundance Film Festival has announced its winners, and shut up shop for another year. The grand jury prize for dramatic movie went to "American Splendor", a bittersweet tale about a comic book creator. Best documentary was picked up by "Capturing the Friedmans" - a laugh-a-minute look at a family torn apart by allegations of child abuse. Expect to see both at your local multiplex soon, no doubt.

"SPIDER-MAN" WRITER David Koepp is to direct Johnny Depp in an adaptation of Stephen King's "Two Past Midnight: Secret Window, Secret Garden".
Koepp will script himself, spinning a story about a divorced writer trapped by a nutter who reckons he plagiarised his work. Sounds like misery. Sorry, "Misery"

WANT SOME DVDS, GUV? Cos pirated copies of "The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers" and "Gangs of New York" are doing the rounds in the UK. The dodgy copies have been lifted from 'screener' discs sent to members of the Motion Picture Association of America, so they can give the movies Oscar consideration.

"A BEAUTIFUL MIND" co-star Adam Goldberg has lined up a top-drawer indie cast for his second directorial outing. Christina Ricci, Giovanni Ribisi, Franka Potente, Vince Vaughn, Joshua Jackson and Jason Lee all have roles in "I Love Your Work", a drama about the mental breakdown of a movie star.

THE WRITER of cross-cultural romantic-comedy "The Guru" is following the old "If it ain't broke... etc" adage with her next project. Tracey Jackson told BBCi Films her plans: "I'm starting a new film in India. It's another transglobal love story. It's between an Indian girl who works in a call centre and a young guy in New York."

JIM CAVIEZEL'S GOT some acting coach: God. The Catholic star of Mel Gibson's Jesus flick "The Passion" has found shooting the Crucifixion particularly draining, but says the man upstairs has lent a hand. "There's an immense amount of suffering on this. Fortunately, God is helping me," he told Time magazine.
Gibson, meanwhile, is sticking to his plan to show the movie (shot in Aramaic and Latin) without subtitles, saying, "The audience will have to focus on the visuals. But they had silent films before talkies arrived, and people went to see them."
