"Anita & Me" is based on the award-winning first novel by Meera Syal.

Set in 1972, it's a coming-of-age tale about 12-year-old Meena, the daughter of the only Asian family living in a Midlands mining village. She develops a fascination with Anita, the local beautiful blonde bad girl.
