There are 40,000 people on site at this year's festival which will be headlined by The 1975, Mumford & Sons and Fleet Foxes.

The 1975 last played here in 2013 on Huw Stephen’s Lake Stage and will tonight play their first ever festival headline slot.

Plenty of fans, like Kelly (below) think that the big stage is exactly where the Manchester band belong nowadays....

Latitude headline slot is 'the pinnacle' for The 1975

Tomorrow night, Mumford & Sons will bring their Gentlemen of the Road show to the main stage.

They've curated an evening of musical fun so expect acoustic guitars, beards, tweed jackets and big sing-alongs. We're also expecting some special guests.

Fleet Foxes top the bill on Sunday with their first UK gig in over five years.

There is a small brewery on site too for them all to enjoy a swift half after the show, as well 121 food stalls.

Finally, if they're feeling brave later on then 9,000 people swan in the lake last year.

    That sounds like a challenge...

Of course, the 'Summer Song' doesn't have to have any English in it at all - who can forget The Macarena, external?

So what makes a summer smash? Here are six key ingredients.

    Pink coloured sheep

As you've seen the humans are having a good time and the BBC Introducing lineup seems sorted.

They've helped to break some acts that you might have heard of down the years (Florence, Catfish, Jake Bugg anyone?).

Now for their latest discovery. Introducing... Dave Hull’s pink sheep.

This fluffy flock are a colourful new addition to this year's festival. They were roaming by the lake when this pic was taken but they could be over at the BBC Music Stage now for all we know.

We're assured that they were given this rather delightful makeover in a completely safe and harmless method.

There are approximately 60 four-month old mix breed sheep making their Latitude debut this year, selected from a cast of 1,000.

We wonder if they had an X Factor style audition?

Aussie singer/songwriter Julia Jacklin has performed already and psychedelic scousers The Coral are about to do the same shortly, followed by Mystery Jets.

This afternoon, over at The Speakeasy, singer Will Young will deliver a lecture on 'The Art of Listening'. At least I think that's what someone said...

It's called Qwest TV and is due to debut sometime in the autumn with early subscribers invited to join a Kickstart campaign.

"I believe that a hundred years from now, when people look back at the 20th century, they will view Bird, Miles and Dizzy as our Mozart, Bach, Chopin and Tchaikovsky."

The producer, who worked on Michael Jackson's Off The Wall, Thriller and Bad albums, is currently embroiled in a bitter royalties dispute, external with the late singer's estate.

DMX is in trouble with the law again.

The 46-year-old rapper is accused of "engaging in a multi-year scheme” to withhold $1.7m (£1.3m) in taxes from his earnings made between 2002 and 2005.

DMX - whose real name is Earl Simmons - handed himself over to the authorities and is due to appear in court later.

The charges state he "went out of his way to evade taxes, including by avoiding personal bank accounts, setting up accounts in other’s names and paying personal expenses largely in cash".

According to the Inland Revenue Service, DMX claimed his earnings were “unknown” in 2011 and 2012 and said he made just $10,000 (£7,700) in 2013.

His band 30 Odd Foot of Grunts may be no more, but actor-cum-singer Russell Crowe is playing two UK dates next month.

The Oscar winner has a new musical project called Indoor Garden Party, who are on at London’s Union Chapel on 28 September, and at City Varieties Music Hall in Leeds the following day.

Russ opted for Leeds as he has a “deep connection and love of Yorkshire” and has supported Leeds United since his childhood. He also has a new friend who was born in the county – Ed Sheeran.

"He was touring in Australia and he knows Ronan Keating and Ronan is a mate of mine. And he was looking for a place to clear his head for the night. So he came and stayed at my farm," Russell explained.

It turns out that Ed even performed for him.

"I’ve got a little bar where we hang out on the farm. He’s put on a show there a couple of times. It’s more of an English pub. It’s called The Blind Rabbit."

Ed Sheeran has of course just headlined Glastonbury, where Johnny Depp and Kiefer Sutherland performed this year.

But Russell is non-plussed by the idea that perhaps he should be the next Hollywood A-lister to play Worthy farm. "Ah, we’ll see," is all he offered.
