A new collection of paintings and images of Michael Jackson goes on display at the National Portrait Gallery this week.

The singer - who died nine years ago - would have turned 60 this August.

Michael Jackson: On the Wall is a play on the singer's 1979 Off the Wall album.

"There's probably no one else in recent history who attracted so much attention from artists wanting to capture his image," exhibition curator Nicholas Cullinan told the BBC.

You might recognise Lakeith Stanfield from his appearances as the mercurial Darius in Donald Glover's hit series Atlanta or from the Oscar-nominated Get Out.

Well, he is also an amateur rapper and occasionally posts videos of himself dropping some bars.

In a since-deleted clip posted a few days ago, he rapped a handful of homophobic lyrics for which he was quite rightly taken to task over on social media.

Now the repentant actor has shared an apology saying that he often "assumes characters that have different viewpoints and different views on life and just different perspectives”

He went on: "This character that you’ve seen is a character that I’m definitely not in line with and I definitely don’t believe those things.”

  11. Grammy expands shortlists for major awardspublished at 11:48 BST 27 June 2018

    Billboard magazine

After being criticised in recent years for a lack of racial and gender diversity in its major award categories, the Grammys have announced a major shake-up.

The number of nominations in the record, song and album of the year and best new artist categories is expanding from five to eight.

The changes will take effect for the 61st Annual Grammy Awards in 2019.

"This creates more opportunities for a wider-range of recognition in these important categories and gives more flexibility to our voters when having to make the often challenging decisions about representing excellence and the best in music for the year," said Grammys boss Neil Portnow.

This year saw no women were nominated for album of the year with only Lorde getting a nod in the record of the year list.

The awards were dominated by Bruno Mars (pictured above) and only 17 out of 86 awards went to women or female-fronted bands at the 2018 ceremony.

Speaking after the event in January, Portnow said women had to "step up" when asked about the lack of recognition they received.

He has since apologised and announced an independent task force to examine "the role of gender" at the Grammy Awards.

The US country legend is about to become officially twice as nice - if that's humanly possible.

Dolly has been named, alongside the likes of Pink and Michael Buble, in the Hollywood Hall of Fame class of 2019.

She becomes the first female this century to have their name etched on the famous walkway twice, after having previously received the honour back in 1984.

"I like to do things in pairs - if you know what I mean?" said Dolly (above).

Nothing worse it there than being between a rock and a hard place, the devil and the deep blue sea.

The zany new video is taken from the US band's 2017 album, After Laughter, and comes with the announcement off a one-off Paramore + Friends gig in their hometown of Nashville in September.

  16. Kanye accused of using uncleared samples on new albumspublished at 09:54 BST 27 June 2018

    Pitchfork

It's another day and another reason for Kanye West to make it into Music News LIVE.

This time, the rapper/producer stands accused of using uncleared samples in at least two tracks from his recent spate of albums.

Firstly, a Germany-based label said Ye used a sample, external, on his own album's opening track, I Thought About Killing You, by an artist called Kareem Lotfy.

Now, the Kanye-produced album by singer Teyana Taylor, K.T.S.E, which was released last Friday is coming under the microscope.

Her track Issues/Hold On, external apparently uses a sample of another record, an unknown artist’s cover of Billy Stewart’s 1965 hit I Do Love You.

According to Pitchfork, external, it was used in a 2010 box set released by the Boddie Recording Company.

The label co-founder Rob Sevier told Pitchfork. “While we haven’t actually heard anything from Kanye’s team about this sample, we are in the midst of multiple other clearances and I don’t want to imply that they don’t intend to clear it.”

Kanye has not commented on the claims.

Former fans of Moz are to stage an anti-racism "friendly protest" party in Manchester at the same time as his show at the city's Castlefield Bowl on 8 July.

The protests concern the singer's increasingly incendiary political comments, including his support for English Defence League leader Tommy Robinson - who was recently jailed after being found in contempt of court - and right wing For Britain founder Anne Marie Waters.

The One Nation Under A Groove protest party, organised by legendary Hacienda DJ Dave Haslam, will be held at the nearby Revolution bar and Morrissey fans are apparently welcome to attend before/after his gig too.

Dave told The Guardian, external he had set up the event; “in response to Morrissey’s divisive views, and his support for the far right”.

    Quote Message

Manchester is our home. It’s a city built on immigration, a city with an amazing legacy of great bands and wonderful clubs. Music brings people together. Strangers become brothers, sisters. All this positivity spreads into the city and beyond.

In a recent interview with his own new website, the former Smiths frontman declared Adolf Hitler to be "left-wing."

He said: “As far as racism goes, the modern loony left seem to forget that Hitler was leftwing."
