We'll leave you today with more reaction to last night's Liam Gallagher gig for the Manchester victims:

Speaking before the gig in Manchester, Matthew from Blakely said:

    Quote Message

I'm buzzing, it's gonna be special. It's gonna be mega! We're all hoping that it means something else is gonna happen..."

We think he means an Oasis reunion but I wouldn't hold your breath just yet Matthew as Noel has apparently got a new record coming out shortly, external after Liam.

Kay and Ashby from Monton were happy the gig went ahead with all proceeds going to the victims and families.

    Kay said:

    Quote Message

Tremendous, he's doing Manchester proud! I think it's courageous of him really, as everyone has the same concerns. We just have to hope that security is good enough and it doesn't happen again."

    Ashby added:

    Quote Message

I think there's something really poetic about the occasion and I think it works. I fully believe in the charity and it's very important, given the Oasis song that was sung during the ceremony, that Liam is headlining this event.

We'll be back again tomorrow but scroll back from more on that Liam gig, including 5 things we've learned, plus a UK tour starring a Hollywood actor, new music from OMD and some of the performances from the last in the current series of Later... with Jools.

Danny from Warrington told the BBC he'd spotted Oasis guitarist Paul 'Bonehead' Arthurs at the Ritz in Manchester and was delighted to have just half of the old Oasis lineup back together for such a momentous cause.

    Quote Message

It's everything tonight isn't it? Solidarity and togetherness. Massive cause in itself and who doesn't want Liam back?"

    From Wales with love

Paul from North Wales (above left) said Liam had been missed and that there was "nobody like him in the industry".

Alerting us to the 22 candles about to be lit on the stage, he added:

    Quote Message

It's a show of unity isn't it. 22 candles ready to be lit, is a poignant message. We may not be Manchester but we stand together wherever we are from."

Marie and Matthew from Hartlepool agreed that they were "simply buzzing" to be in Manchester for the occasion.

    Matthew added:

    Quote Message

It was massively important that this gig went ahead. Oasis are an iconic band in Manchester so it's really poignant to get everyone together. Liam is putting money back into his own home city, so big up to the man!"

    BBC Newsbeat

    Theresa MayImage source, AFP/Getty Images

With just a couple of days before the official singles chart is announced, the song accusing Theresa May of being a "liar" has reached number three.

Sales of Liar Liar by Captain Ska are being driven by downloads, said the Official Charts Company, with over 30,000 people buying a digital copy of the track.

The song, which includes statistics on UK poverty levels, has been streamed just over 100,000 times with more than a million views on YouTube.

However, if it hits number one, it won't be played on Radio 1 with the station saying: "Our editorial guidelines require us to remain impartial and the UK is currently in an election period."

  7. Manchester 'buzzing' after Liam's benefit gig: More reactionpublished at 13:23 BST 31 May 2017

    Steve from Denton

Steve from Denton (above) told the BBC he "lives for Oasis" before the gig and hoped that Liam and Noel would set aside their differences and come together on stage to help raise money for the victims of the Manchester Arena bombing:

    Quote Message

I'm absolutely buzzing. Liam's doing the right thing. It's a dream come true. I just wish Liam and Noel would get back together for their mam and for Manchester. I've had arguments with my brother, they need to sort it out. This could be the start of things.

Self-declared 'Manchester girl' Laura from Wythenshawe had hoped for the same.

That rumour spread around the room but sadly turned out to be wishful thinking.

Fellow Manchester City FC fan Laura was happy just to see Liam and lots of like-minded souls in The Ritz last night.

    Quote Message

A tragedy in Manchester might have brought them back together you never know! But I think it's amazing to donate everything to charity, last minute job. Liam's rock 'n' roll isn't he? He's one of them people who puts himself out there, no fear. He's bringing Manchester back together again. It feels like home tonight.

    Linzi from Newton Heath

Linzi from Newton Heath described Liam as "a god" and "unbelievable" for playing the gig for free.

    She said:

    Quote Message

I know he's gonna be singing those songs from his heart for those families and for his hometown. Any terrorists don't want to bump into Liam Gallagher! That's all I have to say."

Read more about what the gig meant to other fans of the singer.

  8. Synth poppers OMD return with new album and trackpublished at 13:20 BST 31 May 2017

Singer Andy McClusky said the new track is "about the modern world where our communication value systems are so reduced that you wonder if we’re actually getting any clear point across".

    Point received.

    That's right...

As you'll have gathered by now, Manchester's prodigal son returned for his first ever solo gig last night after an emotional week for the city in mourning.

Scroll down for our review of the action.

We spoke to some gig goers before and after the gig, so let's see what they made of the occasion.

Robert, 16 from Todmorden, West Yorkshire said: "I would've been in my mother's womb when Oasis were going, so I was delighted to get the chance to hear some of their songs played live at last."

    Quote Message

It's really brave and really fair play to him as it's for charity - as a lot of people backed away from their gigs. He doesn't have to do it and is making money as it is so fair play.

Paul from Helmshore in Lancashire said he was "waiting for this moment for ages."

    Quote Message

It's amazing, I followed his last bands but I've been waiting for this solo album for ages. Playing Live Forever must be a hard one to do... after what happened last week it's going to be very emotional for everyone."

Kelly from Wrexham, who had an Oasis-themed wedding exactly one year ago, said the fact the gig was going ahead was amazing as she had "a happy husband!"

The pair walked down the aisle to Liam's Songbird (sadly missing from last night's show).

    Quote Message

It's amazing. It brings everybody together, shows that we are not scared. There's anxiety amongst everybody I'm sure waiting in the queue but if we run scared, what's gonna happen? Makes it all the better that we are seeing Liam. I'm a parent and if I show fear to my kids, what am I bringing my kids up like?

We'll have more reaction in a bit, so if you spoke to one of our handsome reporters then stay tuned.

  15. 5 things we learned from Liam Gallagher's first ever solo showpublished at 10:17 BST 31 May 2017

    Liam GallagherImage source, PA

It was an emotional night for everyone at Liam's debut solo gig in Manchester last night.

Having lost none of his signature swagger, the singer performed some of his hotly-awaited new songs and a mix of Oasis classics.

So, what were the five things that we learned from the show?

    Liam GallagherImage source, PA

    1) The names of eight new songs

So we knew about Wall of Glass already. That's the one that was partially leaked last week online and will receive its radio premiere tonight on Radio 1 with MistaJam. So best tune in for that one LG fans.

But a sneak peak at a rogue playlist from backstage reveals the following titles. It's possible that some of these are abbreviations but some bold titles in there. Quite literally.

    Greedy Soul

    Wall of Glass

    Bold

    Paper Crown

    All I Need

    I Get By

    You Better Run

    Universal Gleam

    Liam GallagherImage source, PA

    2) The new songs sound good but the Oasis oldies sound grrrrreat

If you're planning on seeing Liam and his new band in either London, Glasgow or Dublin, then you can expect to hear some old Oasis bangers such as Rock 'N' Roll Star, Morning Glory and Slide Away, as well as a couple of lost tunes off Be Here Now.

We can't guarantee Bonehead will rock up and join in at the other gigs too though, like he did last night.

We have a feeling that the a cappella Live Forever may have been a special treat for the people of Manchester.

Liam Gallagher fans outside the venueImage source, AFP

    3) Liam has not changed his style one bit

Pop stars often go away for a while then return having totally re-invented themselves.

But then Liam was never a pop star.

He's got his best cagoule on indoors once more, shoulders behind his back and standing perfectly still with a tambourine.

Basically don't expect any jazz or grime anytime soon.

    It's just rock n rolllll.....

    4) The 22 will not be forgotten.

The profound effect of the Manchester attacks have been felt across the country this week.

Particularly at the Ritz venue last night, were Liam himself applauded the crowd's impromptu chant of "stand up for the 22".

Twenty-two candles were lit on stage behind Liam as mark of respect and a reminder that no-one should have to die because they went to a gig.

"It's not about me tonight. It's about you," said an unusually humble Liam.

    End of X post 2

    5) LG still loves Manchester

He said so himself at the end. You can take the boy out of Burnage...

The feeling is mutual though and despite racing through the 14 tracks with limited chit chat the cries of "Liiiiiiam..." were deafening, from fans both young and old.

He is one of their own and this worker bee is about to get busy once again.
