That's about it for a short Music News Live today but scroll back down for a posthumous honour for Bob Marley (well, his old house), tour news from BTS and Alice Cooper, the TRNSMT festival answers criticism it's got too few female artists plus a Newbie Tuesday whose sheer confidence belies her tender years.

In case you've been living in a broom cupboard for the past few weeks you might know that it's the Brit awards tomorrow night and we'll be covering the whole thing live.

Can Dua Lipa repeat her success from last year? Is it George Ezra's year to shine? Will Jack Whitehall (above) have a load more apologies to make?

All good questions and we'll be there to answer them, all the way from the red carpet to the winner's podium. We will keep you informed of all the backstage gossip from around 1700 tomorrow.

So be there or be a two dimensional shape with four equal sides.

If the hits dry up then Drake could have a second career in the fighting arts as he showed off his best shots at a training session in the US.

We think he signposts his jab a little but certainly makes up for it with total commitment.

Plus he wears his own merch while he trains so he clearly doesn't mind looking uncool.

  4. Kodie Shane: The young rapper and growing hero of the LGBT communitypublished at 15:55 GMT 19 February 2019

Newbie Tuesday #65 says being "100% me" is good enough

To suggest Atlantan rapper Kodie Shane steps out on to the stage at her very first UK gig with confidence, is like saying Ariana Grande is doing pretty well in the charts right now.

She bursts onto the stage in the east end of London, positively brimming with confidence and youthful vigour and, at the age of just 20, gives the impression that she has been doing this for years.

"Who I am, is who I am on stage, there's no act, it's not like I flick a switch," she insists.

"I’ve always wanted to be an entertainer, I’ve always wanted to be on stage. It’s my time when I can truly show you what I'm made of."

The star-in-the-making has just completed her first run of European headline dates, following the November release of her debut album Young Heartthrob.

For all her on-stage bravado, it's a hip hop album of brutal tenderness and honesty (and killer trap beats of course) and her fervent fan base hang on her every word, that is when they are not singing along to every song.

"They knew all the music, it makes me so happy to know that people know the music because in the States, a lot of the time people are too cool to sing the songs, so the fact that they weren’t trying to be too cool for me was awesome," she says.

She also employees the nifty trick of handing out roses to fans lucky enough to grab her attention.

"I’ve been handing out roses since we started this tour," she smiles. "I thought it would create a cool vibe to give the girls and the boys something from me that they can keep."

Born Kodie Williams and raised in Chicago, the now Atlanta-based artist began rapping at the age of 15 and started working with other young emerging artists like Lil Yachty and Trippie Redd.

Inspired by artists like Drake, Frank Ocean and Nicki Minaj, "I started taking it seriously when I was about 16," she says.

"I love music, this is me, this is everything."

She grew up in a musical household, her father is a musician and her big sister Brandi Williams was a member of an early 2000's group Blaque.

Kodie's mum acts as her manager now. Like most people working in music, they probably have some horror stories but Kodie insists they never tried to put her off a career in the same industry.

"My sister definitely inspired me a lot, I always wanted to be like her," she says.

"My family was definitely happy to see me do this, they never tried to put me off, they could see how excited I was."

Kodie's honest and sensitive songwriting, particularly when it comes to her own sexuality, have seen her hailed a role model for young people in the LGBT community. She addresses her sexuality in tracks like Sing to Her: She like it when I rap, but love it when I sing to her / She can’t get enough.

"Whether I want to be or not it is what it is," she says. "If young girls are going to look up to me and be inspired by me, if they want to be like me and feel my vibe I love that I’m not scared of it

"I don’t have to watch what I say or what I do, I can just be me. I feel that me being 100% me is good enough to be a role model."

It’s sad that it hasn’t always been this way but now you can definitely walk in your truth. People back in the day used to have to hide who they were but now we don’t have to do that.

Kodie is also a fan of Lady Gaga, in particular her Oscar-nominated turn in A Star is Born, which she suggest is "the last great movie" she went to see.

"I just like the emotion in the film," she says. "For me, it was so raw, it was such an emotional and raw film, so real you know?

    "She was amazing."

Gaga herself has become something of a cheerleader for women in the industry, which she demonstrated earlier this month when she publicly called for support for Cardi B after she was trolled for winning best rap album at the Grammys.

It's a gesture which means a lot to Kodie.

"I definitely feel there is a lot of other artists who extend the hand and give me help and support young artists. I think that goes both ways though, there is a lot of support but there’s also a lot of older artists who don't like to see change and things elevate.

"But to hell with those old people."

The event in Glasgow, which has become a de facto replacement for T in the Park, announced its headliners on Monday, with Stormzy, Catfish and the Bottlemen and George Ezra all booked.

But some people have noted the lack of gender diversity on the bill, currently sitting at a rate of about 4-1 in favour of men.

It followed growing calls for more music events to commit to aiming for a 50/50 gender split on future line-ups.

Speaking to NME, the events organiser Geoff Ellis said: “We try to have more females on the bill. Jess Glynne is a big artist and she’s there.

"Would I prefer to have more female artists on the bill? Yes. But it’s also about developing female artists to make them into headliners."

The fashion designer has died at the age of 85.

Lagerfeld, who was the creative director for Chanel and Fendi, was one of the industry's most prolific figures, and worked up until his death.

He designed collections for his own brand and collaborated with high street brand H&M.

German Lagerfeld had been unwell for several weeks, and had missed a number of fashion shows.

Victoria Beckham called him "a genius" while Lily Allen said "you made me feel like princess".

The house in Chelsea where Bob Marley lived for a year in 1977 while his band The Wailers finished their Exodus album is to get a blue commemorative plaque from English Heritage.

It was during his time in London that he referred to the city as his "second base" and he and his bandmates often played football at the nearby Battersea park.

Other blue plaques to be awarded this year include the building at Butler's Wharf where punk filmmaker Derek Jarman lived and worked.

The blue plaques panel called Marley a "cultural icon who blazed a trail for other black artists".

  10. Fewer women are making it into the chartspublished at 14:11 GMT 19 February 2019

    Ian Youngs

Three times as many male as female pop stars appeared on last year's biggest hit singles, BBC research has found.

Ninety-one men or all-male groups were credited in the Official Charts top 100 most popular songs of 2018 - compared with 30 female acts.

And despite the success of singers like Dua Lipa and Ariana Grande, the gender gap has grown over the past decade.

Thirteen of the most popular 100 songs of 2018 were credited only to female acts - down from 35 in 2008.
