It's that time of the week again folks when we reflect on what we've learned over the past week in Music News LIVE.

Well, we discovered that Cardi B is to play a stripper in a new movie and the Aretha Franklin memorial highway got approved in her home state Michigan, plus how The Lemon Twigs became the backing band for our Newbie Tuesday #69 Jackie Cohen.

1. The Chilis played the Pyramid Stage (quite, literally)

We're not talking about the Glastonbury main stage here...

California funk rockers Red Hot Chili Peppers played to an audience of 10,000 in front of Egypt's great pyramids of Giza on Friday.

The show, promoted by Egypt's tourism ministry, is being seen as an attempt to woo holidaymakers back to the country following political turmoil and terror attacks.

Artists who have previously performed at the ancient site include the Grateful Dead, Scorpions and Frank Sinatra.

2. Jesy Nelson is to front a BBC doc on body image

The Little Mix star will explore body image and mental health in a brand new documentary for the BBC.

Jesy Nelson: My Story (working title) will look at how growing up in a social media-fuelled age of selfies, body shaming and trolling is having a profound impact on the mental health of young people.

Jesy said: “This is a project really close to my heart, and I’m delighted to be working with the BBC on a documentary that will both challenge me personally and also highlight a hugely important issue affecting young people today.”

The band - with the backing of Ariana Grande - were recently embroiled in an online Twitter spat with professional troll Piers Morgan, after they undressed to reveal insults they'd received written all over their naked bodies, in the video for Strip, external.

The documentary will premiere exclusively on BBC Three before it airs on BBC One.

3. Ozzy Osbourne led the tributes to 'heart of gold' guitarist

Ozzy paid his respects to his former guitarist Bernie Tormé, who died on Sunday, aged 66.

He described the Irish musician as "a gentle soul with a heart of gold," adding "He will be dearly missed."

A statement from Tormé's family said he had "passed away peacefully on the 17 March 2019, one day short of his 67th birthday, surrounded by his family."

4. Janet Jackson was mysteriously bumped up the Glasto bill poster

For many Janet fans she will be the highlight of the Worthy Farm event this June.

However, officially top of the bill will be Stormzy, The Cure and The Killers, with Kylie Minogue in the Sunday afternoon 'legends slot'.

That didn't stop JJ's official Twitter account from uploading a slightly doctored festival poster (below) with her name at the top.

She must have been getting some editing lessons from Yorkshire indie band The Sherlocks, who admitted cheekily changing last year's Y Not lineup poster so they appeared higher than The Amazons.

5. Liam Gallagher's son Gene plays bongos on his next album

The rock 'n' roll star has been in the studio recording the follow-up to his number one solo album, As You Were, and tweeted a picture of one of his offspring laying down some tasty bongo.

Liam isn't the first musician to use his own kid to appear on an album.

Jay Z's daughter, Blue Ivy, provided a freestyle on his 4:44 album while Liam's hero, Stones Roses frontman Ian Brown's sons also featured on his latest album, Ripples, which was released earlier this year.

Even rock star kids have to do chores to cover their rent. Beats washing the dishes we suppose...

The London post-punk band are to play their chart-topping debut record, To Lose My Life, in its entirety at a show at Brixton Academy in south London later this year.

The album was released in January 2009 and included hits like Unfinished Business (above). They released their fifth album, Five, in February this year.

Singer Harry McVeigh said in statement: “Over the past 10 years, no matter where we go in the world, we still find White Lies fans who have had an important part of their lives soundtracked by that record, each with their own unique story."

He added the gig, on 6 December, will "make some new memories for the next 10 years”.

Connie's, debut, English Rose, is out today and as the Watford singer has helpfully pointed out below, it will probably remain out "forever."

The title is taken from a 1978 track by The Jam, which the MNL Newbie Tuesday star has covered in unique fashion for the album and you can check it out above.

We can just see Paul Weller now, nodding in approval, behind a cigarette.

Singer David Van Day has been elected as a local councillor in a by-election.

Dave, who rose to fame in the late-1970s as one half of Dollar, stood for the Conservatives in the Aveley and Upland ward on Thurrock Council in Essex.

He won the seat, previously held by independent Tim Aker, by 222 votes.

He performed in a version of Bucks Fizz in the 1990s and was a competitor in ITV's I'm a Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here! in 2008.

Bands from around the world are celebrating 50 years of heavy metal at the inaugural World Metal Congress in London.

The genre is often associated with UK acts like Black Sabbath and Motorhead but the phrase itself is credited to Canadian-US act Steppenwolf and their hymn to rock and roll, Born to Be Wild.

The BBC's own hard rocking correspondent David Silito went along to check it out.

BBC Four

In the first live black and white TV programme since the 1970s, the BBC is to revive its 1960’s show, Jazz 625, for one night only.

Broadcasting live on BBC 4 from the Cheltenham Jazz Festival, the show will feature a house band - led by pianist Robert Mitchell - with special guests including Jean Toussaint, Jacqui Dankworth and Gregory Porter.

There’s also an exclusive recorded performance from legendary Rolling Stones drummer Charlie Watts, showing off his jazz-chops in a quartet with saxophonist Scott Hamilton, which you can see below.

Charlie Watts said: “That’s one of the nice things about Jazz 625, they had all the best guys on there.

"In those days, they had real stars and distinctive players. That was one of things I loved about those guys, they just looked so great when they played."

The BBC Sound of 2018 listee and former MNL Newbie Tuesday star has received rave reviews for her debut album, Miss Universe, which is out today.

The Guardian, external gives it 4/5 stars, calling it "anxiety dreams from a true original".

Pitchfork, external is similarly impressed, awarding the record an 8.3/10 score.

It writes: "The rapturous debut from the British singer-songwriter takes adventurous pop-rock crucibles to new heights with her illusory songwriting and stunning voice."

Channelling the looks of country legend Willie Nelson and rock star Bruce Springsteen and a sound not a million miles from his regular band, the Foos guitarist Chris Shiflett has announced his debut solo album.

Check out Welcome To Your First Heartache from the album Hard Lessons which is due on 21 June.

The album is produced by Dave Cobb who has won two Grammys for his work with country star Chris Stapleton.

Chris is also playing a 10-date tour in the UK this spring. Wonder if he'll being any of his rock 'n' roll buddies along with him?...

BBC Radio 4

Radio 4 is to broadcast a documentary about Jack Jones, poet and lead singer of Welsh rock band Trampoline.

In the show Another Swansea Poet, Jones speaks about his upbringing and his love of another local wordsmith, Dylan Thomas.

"I was jealous because he was so famous," said Jack

"I was like, 'How is he so famous and I'm not? How is he so good with words and I'm not?'

"I had a weird obsession with him."

He also reads a poem inspired by the great writer called Still Blood Has No nationality, which you can hear above.

The documentary will be broadcast at 16:40 GMT on 31 March.

When we spoke to Jack at The Great Escape in Brighton last year, he also seemed to have developed a love of the wild life, not unlike his idol.

The singer, podcaster and stage star has shared the upbeat groove of All The Songs, the first track to be taken from his forthcoming seventh album, Lexicon, which is out in June.

The video was directed by fashion photographer Rankin.

It shows Will in character as a businessman, biker, cowboy and sailor - kind of like a one man Village People.

He's also announced a 21-date UK tour, kicking off in October in Torquay and finishing at Blackpool’s Opera House.

Barbra Streisand says she "absolutely" believes James Safechuck and Wade Robson, the men who made explicit allegations of child sexual assault against the late star - in the recent documentary Leaving Neverland.

In an interview with The Times, external (subscription required) however, the Oscar-winning actress and singer goes on to say that the alleged abuse "didn't kill them," as the accusers now have families of their own.

Streisand, who once turned down the offer of a duet with "very sweet, very childlike" Jackson, added that she blames their parents for allowing them to sleep at his home.

“His sexual needs were his sexual needs," she said of Jackson, "coming from whatever childhood he has or whatever DNA he has.

"You can say ‘molested’, but those children, as you heard [them] say, they were thrilled to be there. They both married and they both have children, so it didn’t kill them.”

She went on: "I feel bad for the children. I feel bad for him. I blame, I guess, the parents, who would allow their children to sleep with him. Why would Michael need these little children dressed like him and in the shoes and the dancing and the hats?”

The US singer showed up at the BBC's Maida Vale studios to perform 11 Minutes, her collab with British singer-songwriter YungBlud for Radio 1's indie show on Wednesday night.

The theatrical singer returns today with his first solo album in five years, after having back-to-back number one LPs with his pal Alfie Boe.

He's just been on the BBC breakfast couch explaining to presenters Naga and Charlie that their unprecedented success came as a huge shock to the duo.

With new record, Coming Home To You - a mix of originals and classic covers - Ball is bidding for his first chart-topping album as a soloist since 1992.

And he's pretty pumped about it, having co-written some of the songs with Ben Earl of The Shires and songwriter Jack McManus.

"I'm more excited and more nervous about this than any one I've done," said Michael, "as it's a real passion project.

"I have all these ideas but i needed someone to force me to do it.

"That was the impetus I needed."

He added: "The music that we make, I kind of want it be a big hug - that's what it is."

Awww.

The New York rapper has filed to trademark her catchphrase "okurrr."

At least that is how she spells it.

Cardi's company Washpoppin, Inc. filed to trademark the word for use on "paper cups and posters," earlier this month, before adding T-shirts and other clothing merchandise.

During her first appearance on Jimmy Fallon in 2017, Cardi used the word to convey excitement when the host asked her about her engagement to then boyfriend, Offset of Migos.

Since then, it has become a viral success.

In 2017, Cardi became the first female US rapper in 17 years to have a number track - since Lauren Hill - with her breakthrough hit Bodak Yellow, and went on to score a number one album too with her debut Invasion of Privacy.

As well as knocking out hits and making up words, Cardi's skills dexterous vocal skills extend to ASMR too.

She's into it and now so are Radio 4 listeners too apparently...

The country singer has raised around $200,000 (£153,000) in funds after wildfires ravaged her home region of Tennessee in 2016.

Around 2,500 homes were lost and 14 people were killed in the Smokey Mountain fires.

Dolly created the My People Fund days after the event.

The money will go to eight volunteer fire departments across her local Sevier County district.

Along with the charitable funds, Parton also gave nearly 900 families $10,000 (£7,600) each following the fires.
