During his first live BBC session in five years, the outspoken Mancunian miserablist claimed that the recent UKIP leadership election was "rigged" and declared his support for an independent Catalonia, while debuting tracks from his forthcoming album Low In High School.

Described by a fan, outside this week's first 6 Music Live gig, as "one of the last great British icons" (scroll down), the 58-year-old opened today's matinee performance with a whimper - and a half-decent pun to be fair - at the corporation's Maida Vale studios in London.

"Hello. It’s the crack of noon" he quipped.

"I've been Maida-vailble. And that’s it..." Boom Boom.

He then launched into You Have Killed Me from 2006 album Ringleader of the Tormentors, to begin a 14-song set that drew largely on new tracks from his 11th studio LP, which hits the shops and streams on 17 November.

A small-but-excitable crowd (which included comedian David Walliams, Catatonia singer Cerys Matthews and Samwell Tarly from Game of Thrones - aka fellow Manc John Bradley West, external) saw Moz thankfully ignore his own advice on new single Spent The Day In Bed, to be up and at 'em, crooning and tackling the political issues of the day.

"If I look a little blurry...I haven’t been up this early", he declares, at the ungodly hour of 12.15pm.

"You must forgive me . Or not".

Once woken from his apparent early gig slumber, the singer - dressed in a dark suit jacket and jeans, with a crucifix chain dangling down - broadcast his views on Henry Bolton being appointed as the new leader of the UKIP party.

"It was very interesting to me to see Anne-Marie Waters become the head of UKIP" he said.

“Oh no, sorry, she didn’t. The voting was rigged. Sorry, I forgot.”

He added: "You don’t get it do you. You obviously don’t read the news."

Greeted by silence.

His comments have not gone down well on Twitter, external.

"I'm fairly certain Morrissey just voiced support for Anne Marie Waters and I'm really uncomfortable about it," wrote one person, external.

Anti-Islam campaigner Waters was backed in her leadership bid by former English Defence League leader Tommy Robinson.

Wearing a '**** Trump' badge, US resident Morrissey was backed himself by his band all wearing ‘return of the black panthers’ t-shirts.

The singer is no stranger to controversial merchandise, having recently sold a series of similarly provocative t-shirts on his own old school fanzine site True To You., external

For added international appeal keyboardist Gustavo Manzur took centre stage to sing in Spanish halfway through track four, Speedway, from 1994 album Vauxhall and I, as Morrissey watched on from the side of stage.

Moz later returned to the full glare of the limelight to perform the deeply-political title track from last album World Peace is None of Your Business, containing the refrain:

Each time you vote you support the process / Egypt and Ukraine so many people in pain...

And earlier managed to shoehorn in the phrase; "Even in Catolonia the Police can be bribed" into 2006 track Ganglord, with reference to yesterday's trouble in Barcelona.

"Free Catalonia from Spain. Free the bull from Spain. Free everybody from Spain", the strict vegetarian added, before performing The Bullfighters Dies.

No doubt inspired by a month of great Live Lounges the former Smiths man, who offered not a single song by his old band, also covered Back On The Chain Gang, external by his friend Chrissie Hynde of The Pretenders.

After a final dig at the politicians in "West-monster", Moz finished his own party political broadcast by urging the youth of today to reject politics and search for answers in the arms of their lovers instead on another new track All The Young People Must Fall In Love.

All in all a risky move to allow such a controversial figure the freedom of the airwaves before lunch, but whatever you think of his new music, Bigmouth has people talking once again.

Justin Bieber's manager; the always entertainingly-named Scooter Braun says the pop star's meltdown in 2014 - which saw him arrested a handful of times - was "worse than people realised".

Speaking to the Wall Street Journal, external, Braun has admitted he feared for the singer.

"I failed him day after day. We were living in hell because he was in such a dark place."

2014 saw him accused of abusing drugs and being involved in an illegal street drag race in Miami and linked with an attempted robbery in LA.

Goldie Lookin Chain are back with their twentieth album.

How many of you can name the previous 19?

The new LP is called Fear of a Welsh Planet and is set for release on 3 November.

Speaking to 6 Music, the band revealed the story of the album began when they and rap legends De La Soul met at a festival in Bristol and talked into the wee, small hours about how to make the perfect hip hop album.

Unfortunately, other than a rule to write at least one rap about your nan, the band have no recollection of the conclusion whatsoever.

As the death toll reaches 50, with hundreds injured at Sunday night's shooting in Las Vegas, country star Jason Aldean - who was on stage when 64-year-old Stephen Paddock opened fire towards the open-air Route 91 Harvest music festival - has messaged his condolences "to everyone involved".

In an instagram post (below), he said: "Tonight has been beyond horrific. I still don't know what to say but wanted to let everyone know that me and my crew are safe.

"My Thoughts and prayers go out to everyone involved tonight. It hurts my heart that this would happen to anyone who was just coming out to enjoy what should have been a fun night. #heartbroken, external#stopthehate, external"

Banks has released new track Underdog ahead of her arrival on these shore for three live dates.

The punchy synth-tastic track is her first new music since 2016's The Altar and sees her plead with a lover "come in my bed, come back to heaven".

Her UK tour kicks off in Birmingham on 22 October, followed by shows in Manchester on 24 October and at London's Eventim Apollo the following night.

Eminem fans will soon be able to own more than just his albums or his merch - they can own a slice of future royalties.

Shares in tracks like My Name Is, Lose Yourself and other songs he released from 1999 to 2013 are being offered by his former production duo, the Funky Bass Team.

From October, people will be able to buy a minimum of $2,250 worth of shares in the back catalogue.

Matthew Smith, head of Royalty Exchange - the Denver company running the auction - told Rolling Stone: "Not only do you potentially get to earn along with Eminem's catalogue, but you also win the ultimate bragging rights to say 'hey, I own that!' anytime you hear one of his songs."

Eminem is not involved in the offer but is not the first artist to have his music exploited in this way.

The term 'Bowie Bond' was coined in 1997 when David Bowie raised $55m, external for a slice of income generated by his back catalogue.

If you had Radio 1 on at all this weekend you'd be forgiven for thinking you'd slipped through the space time continuum (but in a good way). Normal programming was suspended for a special schedule of classic moments from down the years to mark 50 years of the station.

Radio 2 also celebrated the landmark with an All Star Party.

The two separate stations came into being on 30 September, 1967 when the BBC's Light Programme split in two.

Fans of the former Smiths singer and songwriter have gathered at London's Maida Vale studio for the first show of this year's 6 Music live week.

This is Moz's first live show in the UK for about five years and our man Paul Glynn is on the ground to speak to fans who are looking forward to it.

Apparently 6 Music DJ and singer Cerys Matthews, along with comedian-turned-children's author David Walliams, got there early to book themselves spots in the front row.

Lady Gaga's tweeted a health update telling fans she's getting "stronger every day".

The singer cancelled the European leg of her Joanne world tour because she was suffering "severe physical pain."

The 31-year-old recently revealed she's suffering with fibromyalgia, a condition which causes severe muscle tenderness.

But she's told fans she can't wait to get back on stage and "hit the piano again".

And he is on top form with 4pm in London, in which he calls out a lot of people.

Unfortunately, our man voices such anger and frustration that the track is riddled with swearwords so unfortunately we can't embed it here on the BBC.

He also drops a hint that that the follow up to Gang Sign and Prayer is on its way.

Nick Cave and his Bad Seeds performed an intense yet ecstatic set at a sold out O2 Arena in London on Saturday night.

The band ran through tracks off their last two albums Skeleton Tree and Push The Sky Away, as well digging into their vault for some classics like Red Right Hand, Into My Arms and The Weeping and Ship Songs.

But perhaps the most special moment of the evening occurred apparently by accident as the 60-year-old singer went out in the crowd for the umpteenth time and happened upon his old rock 'n' roll pal Bobby Gillespie of Primal Scream, sitting to the right of the stage.

A surprised Nick declared. "Bobby Gillespie!", before handing the Scotsman the mic to finish off final track Push The Sky Away; the title track from his band's 2013 album.

Good job Bob knew the words or that could've been awkward. As it turned out it was a pretty epic end to an emotional night and you can check out the moment it happened below.

The gig was part of Nick's first UK tour since the tragic death of his 15-year-old son Arthur.

King of the goths, Marilyn Manson has reportedly cancelled nine dates on his Heaven Upside Down tour after he was injured onstage in New York.

The singer was crushed by a giant stage prop, shaped like two guns, which fell on him on stage as he performed at the Hammerstein Ballroom on Saturday.

An eyewitness told the BBC the singer lay on stage for up to 15 minutes covered by a sheet before he was carried out on a stretcher and taken to hospital.

"He was performing the song Sweet Dreams. Towards the middle of the song it seemed as though he tried climbing onto a prop," said Anthony Biscardi.

"The first touch of weight on those poles and it came crashing down onto him."

Manson will be recuperating at home in Los Angeles said a spokesman and has cancelled nine tour dates following the injury.

The postponed dates include Boston, Chicago, Toronto and Houston.

The tour is due to pick up in Texas on 15 October.

His tenth studio album Heaven Upside Down is due to be released on Friday.

Radio 1 has been celebrating 50 years since the station began with a special series of Live Lounge gigs throughout September.

The likes of Foo Fighters, Jay-Z, Pink and many more have performed gigs in intimate locations. Miley Cyrus even did one from her gaff in Malibu.

Former Pink Floyd frontman Roger Waters has been confirmed as one of the headliners of next summer's Barclaycard presents British Summertime gigs in Hyde Park.

This summer saw top slots from the likes of Phil Collins, Justin Bieber and The Killers. Now Roger will bring his Us + Them tour to the UK for the first time on Friday 6 July, 2018.

Judging by the trailer below you can expect some Floyd classics from Dark Side of the Moon, The Wall and more to be performed, during "the ultimate concert experience".

Wish you were there? Well tickets go on sale on Friday and you can check the BST website, external for more details.

The 74-year-old will also play a series of UK arena dates, either side of the big Hyde Park gig.

Roger's tour, external kicks off in Glasgow on Friday 29 June and takes in Liverpool and Manchester, before culminating in Birmingham on Saturday 7 July.

Starting with the awful news from the US where at least two people have been killed and 24 others wounded in a mass shooting at a Las Vegas concert.

A gunman opened fire at the open-air Route 91 Harvest country music festival at the Mandalay Bay Hotel on the city's strip.

Hundreds of people fled the scene and the sound of what appeared to be prolonged automatic gunfire could be heard on videos posted on social media.

Country star Jason Aldean was on stage at the time the shooting started, external.

There had been reports of other incidents at different locations along the Las Vegas strip.
