    That's it for the day but scroll back down for the music winners at the Golden Globes, plus Lana Del Rey says she has an impending court battle with Radiohead.

    At number five, Pale Waves are the first name out of the hat for the BBC's Sound of 2018, there are tributes to Moody Blue's Ray Thomas and just when you thought it was all over the War of the Gallaghers looks set to continue into another year.

    We'll leave with something from the peerless David Bowie, who would have celebrated his 71st birthday today.

    • Dua Lipa (above) wants the world to know that she's shaved her armpits in preparation for the release of her new music video for IDGAF, which will drop this Friday. "I am so so so excited for you to see this one!!" said the 22-year-old.

    • Glasgow art-rockers Franz Ferdinand (below) trolled Prime Minister Theresa May while performing new track Paper Cages on The Andrew Marr show. Drummer Paul Thomas wore an NHS T-shirt for the performance on the show which also featured the PM, who came under questioning about National Health cuts.

    Pink is set to join JT (that's Justin Timberlake) at this year's Super Bowl.

    She will follow in the footsteps of country star Luke Bryant, Idina Menzel and Kelly Clarkson to perform the Sta Spangled Banner , externalat the sporting event in February.

    Justin (minus Janet Jackson, this time) is the half-time headliner.

    Pink tweeted on Friday that she has some "stuff that's a secret".

    The folk legend and activist has been speaking to Rolling Stone about her new album, Whistle Down the Wind which is due out in March.

    But it might be your last chance to catch her live as she is giving up touring at the end of the year.

    The star who turns 77 on Tuesday said: "It's too hard to sing. It's so difficult to sing. Nobody can really imagine the effort it takes to keep up with these vocal cords. They don't do what I want them to do anymore.

    "When I stay in the low range, they do, pretty much. And I like the sound. But I can't do the upper range anymore."

  5. Mary J Blige: 'I went through hell with sexual harassment'published at 14:37 GMT 8 January 2018

    The R&B singer has been opening up about the history of sexual harassment she faced as a child.

    As The Guardian reports, external, speaking to press on the red carpet at last night's Golden Globes -where she was nominated for best supporting actress for Mudbound - the 46-year-old US singer said: “I’ve had to fight since I was five years old...ever since five to 17 I’ve been going through hell with sexual harassment”.

    In light of the sexual harassment scandal that has engulfed Hollywood of late, Mary J, added that she had not faced harassment during her time in the music industry, as; “by the time I got to the music business it was like, ‘Don’t touch me or I’ll kill you’.”

    She did still wear black in solidarity for the many other women who have.

    "I’m actually happy and proud of these women," she added.

    "It’s a beautiful thing for us to see, and for us to support, because we need each other in that way. And they’ve suffered.”

    Yxng Bane, Mahalia and Hardy Caprio tipped for big things

    The station, which champions urban music, has revealed the names of the top 10 UK acts it predicts will be making waves in 2018.

    The Hot for 2018 list includes Yxng Bane, who featured on top 10 hit Bestie, UK MC Not3s, who's behind the track My Lover, and Kojo Funds, who appeared on Mabel's breakout tune Finders Keepers.

    Yxng Bane said being picked was a "great feeling" and "massive motivation".

    The 1Xtra Hot for 2018 list was revealed by presenter Nick Bright on Monday's breakfast show and was compiled by the station's DJs and staff.

    Nick said: "We at BBC Radio 1Xtra have for years championed new artists coming through.

    Manchester pop goths Pale Waves have come fifth in the BBC's Sound of 2018 poll (scroll down for more).

    If we were to describe their music we would say it comes from a John Hughes movie that was never released.

    It's been almost seven years since their last album but Snow Patrol are coming back later this year, with a new album set to drop in May.

    Singer Gary Lightbody said: " I'm more certain than I've ever been in my life that this record is an incredible one."

    In a wide-ranging interview with BBC Radio Ulster's Sunday News, Gaz admitted: "I had four years of writer's block on this one, it was only six months on Fallen Empires so it seems to be getting worse."

    "There's a lot of depression that is attached to it as well, because you feel like; 'Maybe the only gift I have has deserted me,' and you're kind of inconsolable really."

    Sounds like we can expect some uplifting music then.

  10. Ed Sheeran tops the first singles AND albums charts of 2018published at 11:58 GMT 8 January 2018

    Naturally.

    It's a brand new year but the charts look pretty similar to last year to be honest as all conquering Ed Sheeran continues his domination.

    His track Perfect was the most downloaded and streamed track of the last seven days and therefore 2018 by default.

    Fun Fact: Friday was also the fourth time that Ed's Divide (released way back in March) has topped the album charts at the same time that a track from it has topped the singles charts.

    Tell that one to your pals later and score some cool points.

    Elswhere, Big Shaq is heating up right now after his cult comedy classic Man’s Not Hot achieved its highest chart position of third.

    A week after being labelled a bigot in a full page ad in the US for her decision to pull out of a show in Tel Aviv, Lorde has receive the backing of more than 100 musicians and artists.

    The 21-year-old Kiwi was criticised for pulling out of the show ahead of Christmas.

    "I pride myself on being an informed young citizen, and I had done a lot of reading and sought a lot of opinions before deciding to book a show in Tel Aviv, but I'm not too proud to admit I didn't make the right call on this one," she said.

    The controversial public figure Rabbi Schumuly Boteach took out a full page advert accusing her of prejudice, saying she joined “a global antisemitic boycott of Israel”.

    Now, in a letter published in the Guardian newspaper, external, the likes of Peter Gabriel, Rage Against the Machine's Tom Morello and poet Benjamin Zephaniah have said: "We support Lorde’s right to take a stand."

    "We deplore the bullying tactics being used to defend injustice against Palestinians and to suppress an artist’s freedom of conscience."

    Remember before Christmas when it seemed the Gallagher family had called a pre-festive truce after an eight-year, post-Oasis cold war.

    Well, yeah - forget that.

    Liam has apparently taken offence to Noel suggesting in an interview with Music Feeds, external that it is "undignified" to play stadiums at his age.

    “I don’t need to be a stadium rocker anymore - I did it when I was in my twenties and thirties and forties, and I was good at it," said Noel.

    "I don’t particularly want to be a stadium rocker when I’m 50. I think it’s undignified.”

    Those comments appear to have touched a nerve with 45-year-old Liam, who is currently playing stadium gigs in Australia.

    He's pointed out that the older Gallagher has recently been on a world tour playing similar venues around the world while supporting U2.

    Moody Blues flautist and singer Ray Thomas has died of cancer at the age of 76.

    Ray, who was a one of the founders of the band died at his home in Surrey on 4 January.“We are deeply shocked by his passing and will miss his warmth, humour and kindness,” said Cherry Red Records and Esoteric Recordings in a joint statement.

    “It was a privilege to have known and worked with him and our thoughts are with his family and his wife Lee at this sad time."

    He formed the Moody Blues with Mike Pinder, Denny Laine, Graeme Edge and Clint Warwick in 1964

    The line-up changed in 1966, when Justin Hayward was brought in and Ray's flute solo was a key element of their 1967 hit Nights In White Satin (below).

    Ray remained part of the band until 2002, when he retired due to health issues.

    In December, it was announced the band are being inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, after being eligible for the past 25 years.

    Pale Waves are placed fifth in the BBC Music Sound Of list 2018.

    Previous winners have included Adele, Ellie Goulding and Sam Smith and, on Friday, we'll discover who has topped the BBC Sound of 2018.

    Each day this week, the top five acts from the longlist of 16 shall be revealed and a few minutes ago Radio 1 DJ Annie Mac announced Manchester indie goth pop band Pale Waves have claimed fifth spot.

    As well as the BBC judges the band caught the eye of The 1975’s Matty Healy, who co-produced their first two singles and took them on tour.

    They’re currently working on “songs that will make people cry” for their debut album.

    The Thin White Duke/Ziggy/insert your own favourite persona - David Bowie would've been 71 today.

    The singer died two years ago - just two days after his birthday - now a new radio drama, The Final Take: Bowie In The Studio, will give an imagined account of the making of his final album Blackstar.

    His 25th album was recorded after he was diagnosed with cancer and was also released on this day in 2016.

    Bowie is played by Dead Ringers star and impressionist Jon Culshaw and he spoke to 6 Music's Mary Anne Hobbes about his role in the drama.

    "The feeling I got from it, was that he was fully aware of his condition," he said.

    "But... it didn't dim his creativity at any moment at all."

    Also to mark his birthday, the singer himself has posthumously released a demo version of his 1983 classic Let's Dance.

    It's an early, stripped-back version of the track that has been remixed by guitar legend and Music News LIVE favourite Nile Rodgers, which is reason enough to go and find it at your local streaming service now.

    "That’s it, that’s it! Got it, got it!" declares a delighted Bowie at the end of the track.

    The inspirational power ballad This Is Me picked up one of the two music awards at the Golden Globes in Los Angeles on Sunday night.

    The song, all about self-acceptance, is sung by Hawaiian artist Keale Settle is from the latest Hugh Jackman movie The Greatest Showman - about PT Barnum, founder of the modern circus.

    Check out her performance of the song at a script read through above (and Hugh's face as he gets caught up in the emotion of the moment).

    French composer Alexandre Desplat (below) picked up the Globe for his score to the Guillermo Del Toro movie The Shape of Water.

    Backstage he paid tribute to Star Wars composer John Williams.

    "I'm very fortunate and grateful. This year, the composers who were nominated... I can't believe I won this trophy against John Williams!"

    New York pop star Lana Del Rey says she's being sued by Radiohead for copying their breakthrough single, Creep.

    The Oxford band were rumoured to be taking legal action over Get Free, the closing track of Lana's latest number one album, Lust For Life.

    The LA singer then confirmed the news on Twitter, saying: "It's true about the lawsuit."
