Albert has been chatting to BBC Radio 5 live presenter Nihal Arthanayake about his solo music, The Strokes and his history of drug addiction.

The Strokes guitarist, who is touring the country in support of new solo album, Francis Trouble, has talked about his own struggles with substance abuse and how he advocates dishing out tough love to those facing similar problems.

"You're not walking away from them," he said.

"That's the biggest boldest move to tell them: 'I'm here, just not while you're going to be like this'".

He also refused to be sucked into talking about what he pines for most from The Strokes, who are, technically, still together.

"I never talk about it as I feel the media has been positive and then destructive...

"So then, whenever we do something, I want to do it as the five of us - not me promoting this record then talking about them.

"It's a five-figured bigger than life thing."

Albert, whose dad Albert Hammond Sr performed at the BBC's Proms in the Park this weekend, will himself play Manchester's Club Academy tonight.

With Cardi and Nicki at each other's throats (scroll down), it's put rock star/rap star beef right back on the menu.

But the ladies are far from the first to publicly and privately get into a showdown.

It can be made worse when warring artists end up on the road together.

They don't do things by half, the Kent punk duo.

There may only be two of them but it hasn't stopped them from attempting a cover of an eight-piece international outfit.

Radio 1 described their rendition of Everybody Wants to be Famous earlier this afternoon as "genius".

The London-based Brighton band put a big shout out this summer for female and non-binary artists to support them on their upcoming autumn tour.

It was described as the “band’s mission to smash society’s objectification of women”.

Well, it turns out 433 bands answered the call, meaning a lot of summer listening for Rakel, Alice Go and Bella.

We'll find out who impressed them most soon enough.

The Wives tour the UK and Ireland in October.

That's some claim from someone who has had number one albums and singles both side of the Atlantic, performed at the Super Bowl and worn a dress made entirely of meat.

A Star is Born premiered at this week's Toronoto International Film Festival and an emotional Lady G took the time to thank her co-star/director Bradley Cooper and the rest of the film crew.

"Yes I'm interested in acting more but I am spoiled - I'll tell you something," she said at a press conference.

"These are some talented passionate people up here."

"I want to act, but I don't wanna act if I don't have a director like this," she added, pointing at her co-star.

They all had some very complimentary things to say about her too and you can watch above.

The band, made up of twin brothers Joel and Benji Madden have been together for more than 20 years and shot to fame with feelgood hits like Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous and Girls and Boys.

But ahead of the new album Generation Rx, the pop-punk band say they want to use their seventh LP to highlight the "darker sides of being human" by tackling issues like religious divisions and the US opioid crisis.

"We want to ask questions, we want to encourage people to ask themselves, we want to encourage people to reflect on themselves and how they deal with their pain and how they look at each other."

While many UK students sit up in their lonely rooms watching Jeremy Kyle, Hollyoaks or Bargain Hunt, others - it turns out - have been using theirs as a base from which to plot their own biblical music revolution.

Ronnel Raphael falls firmly into the latter camp.

The north west London rocker and his big brother Loral release their debut four-track debut EP, Nation of Bloodsuckers, on Friday but Sons of Raphael have, in truth, been building their cult of rock 'n' roll personality since boarding school in Bristol many years ago.

"I became very good friends with the janitor, Marv", explains Ronnel.

"Marv kind of helped me to build a recording studio because he liked me.

"I'm a smooth talker and I always get want so I managed to build a recording studio in my room because I wanted to - it's that simple.

"I turned my room into a studio and started writing songs.

"Then we shot that video in the chapel, for Eating People.

"Then it became apparent that we’re gonna form a band."

The brothers, who now have a home studio upgrade in Hampstead, perform as a guitar duo backed only by a reel-to-reel which plays recordings of them playing drums, percussion and synths.

They've already won over famous fans like Belfast DJ/Producer David Holmes and been backed BBC Music Introducing in London.

Their modern rock songs about money, God, old testament prophets and Jesus though have been less well received by certain sections of the church.

"I've always been fascinated by theology and always think that the prophets and Jesus, they are all rock 'n' roll stars and I think we’re doing something similar," says Ronnel, in a transatlantic accent apparently garnered from time spent with his American boarding school buddies.

"We filmed the video at the boarding school in church," says Loral.

"We became the anti-Christ during the video," adds Ronnel.

"They didn’t like it and forced me to play rugby for the next year!

The video for their new EP's title track (which we can't bring to you here in full due to a graphic opening scene) sees Ronnel talking about God, duality and his dual citizenship in heaven and earth.

Despite all the imagery, Ronnel and his bro, insist they do not actually identify as religious themselves.

"We're not religious at all. It just goes hand in hand with music for me.

"It used to be a universal language but it's no longer the case so now we’re seen as religious when we’re not - we just use that language that nobody uses.

"It’s more the fact these old testament prophets were doing something which was marginal and which not everyone accepted, then became these big heroes and stars.

"And we are no different."

"We’re secularists," adds Loral.

"We just like theology. Look at professors of theology; a lot of them are atheists."

Sons of Raphael recently opened up for the "fantastic" Charlotte Gainsbourg on a tour of Europe, where they learned a few things on the road.

Firstly the tour confirmed Ronnel feels most at home on stage, as he demonstrated by wriggling around on the floor/leaning back on his bro with his guitar at the recent Visions Festival , externalin London.

Secondly, he feels least at home in, well... Luxembourg.

"I didn’t really like Luxembourg it feels like the type of place you’d die in.

"Musically we didn’t really learn much."

“How to abuse the mini bar,” jokes Loral.

Before dashing off to prepare for his weekly massage from the family masseuse ("I think you’ve got to be in a good physical condition") Ronnel reveals that - like with the church and the road - nothing or no-one could break this band of brothers.

"I can’t think of being in a band with anyone else other than my brother as we’re related by blood. I can’t think of working with anyone who isn’t.

"We would not get along and I would kick them out of the band as soon as I could."

After playing and touring with his pal Courtney Barnett, guitarist and singer Kurt Vile has announce a new solo album,

Bottle It In will be released on 12 October and features guests including Sonic Youth's Kim Gordon and Cass McCombs.

He will also head out on a worldwide tour including dates in the UK in November.

The album is, at least partly, inspired by his fear of flying.

“When you’re on your way somewhere and you have that burst of panic. When you’re terrified of dying, that’s when you want people to know you love them,” he said.

Kurt spoke to 6 Music's Clare Crane all about the new album and you can listen above.

"It's about anxiety and depression," explained Jared.

"It's something we (brother and bandmate Shannon Leto) have both had our battles with and it's about overcoming those challenges.

The Australian pop singer and songwriter has tweeted her sober anniversary urging other people with abuse problems to "keep going".

The singer has been open about using drugs and alcohol in the past.

She currently forms one third of the supergroup LSD (along with Diplo and British producer Labrinth).

They released their most recent video for Thunderclouds, external a couple of weeks ago.

He told Radio X's Gordon Smart, external: "So many artists, man, if they can’t write a song or they can’t sing or they can’t play, they end up being like semi-political leaders, or believe they have to have a million causes to hide the fact that they can’t do the very thing that we want them to do.

“We don’t give a crap. That paradigm has been broken, smashed by music. That’s where music is power.”

He continued: “So all these artists and actors, with all their opinions and all their little speeches… Go back to what you were supposed to do. Go back and entertain the world."

The singer and actress has said she believes she will "win over it".

The Grease star told Australian TV show Sunday Night she was now using medicinal marijuana and other natural remedies.

Newton-John, 69, survived a breast cancer diagnosis in 1992 but revealed that it had returned in 2013.

A third diagnosis, of a tumour in the lower back, was made last year.

"A lot of people see it as a fight," she said. "Wherever you choose to see it, that's your prerogative. I see it as part of my mission."

The US country singer is set to be honoured with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

Carrie, who is currently pregnant with her second child, has seven-time Grammy Awards to her name will be awarded with a star - for recording - in front of the famous Capitol Records Building.

The singer was due to perform at Radio 2 in Hyde Park on Sunday but pulled out due to illness.

UK star-maker Simon Cowell, who was a judge when Underwood won the fourth season of American Idol in 2005, will help unveil the tribute on 20 September.

We bet he is selecting his outfit as we type (white shirt, blue boot cut jeans and stack heels).

Her seventh album, Cry Pretty, is out on Friday.

The US rapper has had to cancel his Dreamville Festival in his home state of North Carolina due to the anticipated arrival of a rather windy, uninvited and potentially dangerous guest.

Weather predictions say that Hurricane Florence will likely hit the U.S. East Coast as early as Thursday, bringing massive winds and rain.

US President Donald Trump issued a warning as the storm strengthened on its way to the Carolinas, describing it as "one of the worst storms to hit the East Coast in many years".

Organisers have said in a statement: “Due to safety concerns regarding dangerous weather, we are extremely saddened to announce today that the inaugural Dreamville Festival 2018 is being cancelled."

J.Cole, who was to headline Friday's event, performing for 30,000 people on the same bill as Big Sean, SZA, Young Thug and Nelly, points out that while he's disappointed, "safety is most important."

Paul McCartney seems to have gone Liverpool nostalgia crazy all of a sudden following his Carpool Karaoke trip back there with James Corden...

The black-and-white video follows a young Scouse lad called Jamie as he skips home across Paul's hometown of Liverpool, after a pretty good date with the object of his desires, Karen.

The video was shot for his rather cheekily-titled Fuh You, taken from the former Beatle's new album Egypt Station which was released on Friday and is currently battling it out with Eminem's Kamikaze for this week's number one.

The new track was co-written with OneRepublic's Ryan Tedder.

US singer Charlie Puth says he tried to help late rapper Mac Miller "get clean".

The rapper died, aged 26, at his home in Los Angeles on Friday morning after a reported overdose.

Puth told E! News the pair, who were the same age, had become "really good friends" over the past six months.

He said: "We talked almost every day and I don't get a lot of friends who come into my life who I hit it off with so quickly.

"He was one of a kind, there was no one like Mac," added Puth, who also tweeted that Miller had provided "the soundtrack to my college years."

Nicki has broken her silence about her NY Fashion Week showdown with fellow rapper Cardi at the weekend.

The altercation in a very public space culminated in Cardi throwing her shoe at Nicki whilst being restrained by her security team.

She accusing her musical rival of belittling her skills as a mother to her baby daughter Kulture.

Speaking on her Queen Radio show on Apple Music’s Beats 1, external, Nicki called the incident "so mortifying and so humiliating".

“But before I go," she added. "I wanna say that I would never discuss anyone’s child.”

“And it’s so sad for someone to pin that on me because I’m the bad guy and they’re gonna believe them… I would never talk about someone’s child or parenting… It’s so crazy to me that people always need to make Onika (Nicki's real name) the bad guy.

She also called for someone to "give her [Cardi] an intervention", adding "this... ain’t funny".

Nicki has a new music video out too for her diss track Barbie Dreams, starring some Muppet-style rappers but you'll have to find that one for yourselves due to the language.
