  3. 5 Things We've Learned This Weekpublished at 15:12 BST 30 June 2017

    1) Ed Sheeran rocked the house at Glastonbury

Ed Sheeran rounded off one one of the driest, ergo 'best', Glastonburys of recent years with a barnstorming set at Worthy Farm on Sunday night.

Despite the singer having to defend himself from claims he played to a backing track, he got some rave reviews for his performance.

Elsewhere fellow headliners Radiohead played a 'wayward but compelling set' whilst Foo Fighters finally made their Pyramid stage slot two years late.

If your tastes are broader, that are still loads and loads of video performances which you can watch on the BBC online.

    2) Ed Balls is no fan of Radiohead

“The atmosphere for Radiohead is funereal. The end of each song barely acknowledged by anyone other than the hardcore fans at the front."

    Ouch.

The former MP-cum-amateur ballroom dancer was scathing in his Guardian review, external of Thom Yorke's merry band of men at Glastonbury.

Ed, apparently preferred the altogether bouncier sounds of Major Laser.

    3) Britney doesn't lipsync...OK?

Britney Spears launched a furious defence of her live shows after she was accused of lip synching in a fan shot video., external

The footage showed her struggling to remove a mic while her singing mysteriously continued unabated on the speakers.

She told an Israeli television station: "I do have a little bit of playback, but there's a mixture of my voice and the playback.

"It really pisses me off because I am busting my ass out there and singing at the same time and nobody ever really gives me credit for it."

    There. We said it.

Crowning an epic world tour, a handwritten note in the programme confirmed: "I don't know if I'll ever tour again."

Music biopics can be problematic and Morrissey is a tricky character to get to grips with - and has fiercely protective fans - but early reports about England Is Mine are encouraging.

Scots actor Jack Lowden plays the young Steven Patrick Morrissey and the film ends when he meets Johnny Marr and forms The Smiths.

It's been made by Oscar-nominated Mancunian director Mark Gill. He told the BBC:

    Quote Message

We wanted to make him just a very human character. With someone like Morrissey who is larger than life, there's a risk that you could do a parody.

    Quote Message

But I kept saying we weren't making a film about Morrissey - it's about this young kid, and despite the fact he goes on to be somebody of great importance, he did start out as a normal teenage kid going through the same stuff that the rest of us have gone through.

The film gets its premiere at the Edinburgh Film Festival this weekend and is out in UK cinemas on 4 August.

Get Back to where you once belonged

We doubt we'll ever see the figures but it's bound to be worth ££££££££££...

Sir Paul and Sony have a reached a deal in a battle over who owns publishing rights to The Beatles' songs, The Hollywood Reporter, external says.

He had gone to a US court, seeking to regain the rights to 267 of the band's classic tracks.

He has been trying to get them back since the 1980s, when Michael Jackson famously out-bid him for the rights.

Jackson's debt-ridden estate sold the songs to Sony last year, along with others including New York, New York.

    MIchael JacksonImage source, PA

Sir Paul's legal case, filed in a Manhattan court in January, was over what is known as copyright termination - the right of authors to reclaim ownership of their works from music publishers after a specific length of time has passed.

He claimed that he was set to reacquire the Beatles songs in 2018, but said Sony had not confirmed that it would transfer the copyrights to him.

"The parties have resolved this matter by entering into a confidential settlement agreement," Sir Paul's attorney Michael Jacobs wrote in a letter to US District Judge Edgardo Ramos.

All you need is love folks. But rights - rights are important too.

...TLC. Oh well, what's in a name?

The important thing is what's on the record and The Guardian, external give it 4/5 stars saying: "Chilli and T-Boz turn back time".

Meanwhile the NME, external give it 3/5 but say that TLC "arrives with a genuine sense of defying a career unfulfilled."

I lost some friends, some friends that I didn't want to / I lost some stars, my heart bleeds red, white and blue.

Rapper/soul star Plan B has hinted that he is prepared to give up music if it interferes with bringing up his young daughter.

The singer was a guest on Jo Whiley's show on Radio 2 and talked about his changing priorities and his new album "which will be done soon".

He released In The Name of Man earlier this year, his first new music since Ill Manors in 2012.

"I've had the luxury of not having to work and now I have to take myself away from it," he told Jo.

"It's like heaven on earth, its my own little bubble and having to come out to do this, which I equally love but I find quite scary.

"If it's as relentless as I know it can be, I've got to worry about what effect that has on my daughter and I know which choice I'll make if it comes to that point."

    Foo FightersImage source, Getty Images

You'd think that smashing the Pyramid Stage would be enough but it seems that Dave Grohl's favourite Glastonbury moment was hanging out with fellow rock 'n' roll frontman Liam Gallagher.

Speaking to the NME, the Foo Fighters singer said: “You know my favourite moment of the whole night?

“Five minutes before we go onstage, Liam Gallagher wanders in.

"He goes straight over to Taylor and says, ‘That ****** song – Range Rover Bitch!' - Then he starts singing a song from Taylor’s solo record.

"Then he turns round to me and goes, ‘And your [stuff's] alright, too!’

    Liam GallagherImage source, Getty Images

You can still catch incredible sets by both Dave and Liam's bands from Glastonbury over on the BBC Glasto page right now.

The Seattle band's new record Concrete & Gold has been produced by Greg Kurstin who also produced Liam Gallagher's debut solo album.

We can't wait to hear both. Greg has previously worked with the likes of Adele so can we expect big piano ballads from Gallagher and Grohl?

    We doubt it.

  13. The artistic influence of Joy Division and New Orderpublished at 11:42 BST 30 June 2017

True Faith exhibitionImage source, Michael Pollard

As well as staging five special New Order gigs, the Manchester International Festival is paying tribute to the band with an exhibition at the city art gallery.

Half of the exhibition is made up of memorabilia from the New Order and Joy Division days - posters, videos, album covers and the handwritten Love Will Tear Us Apart Lyrics.

And the other half is art which the band(s) - and their designer Peter Saville - have influenced over the years.

It's been co-curated by Matthew Higgs, director of the White Columns Gallery in New York. He explains:

    Quote Message

For a lot of the artists involved, especially when they were younger, Joy Division and New Order were fundamental to them becoming interested in art and culture. The band had kind of a catalytic effect.

    Quote Message

The other thing we were interested to underscore is that it’s not a specific generation – it’s actually ongoing. There are works from 1980 to works by much younger artists who obviously weren’t around at that time.

She posted a copy of the email from 'Kylie' on her Facebook page, external with the note "I think I'm in with a chance ??!!"

She apparently "finds artists who I think have potential."

We think 'Kylie' could be on to something here...

First up today on New Music Friday are Canadian indie band Arcade Fire.

They've just released Signs of Life, the third track from forthcoming record Everything Now, which they debuted live at their recent gig in Scunthorpe.

We must confess they've been baffling us all lately with their apparent 'fake news' conspiracy theories on Twitter to promote the record.

Excellent post-truth marketing guys. You got us!

Montreal's finest teased the cool new track on Wednesday with the above video of the band in shiny suits all clapping in unison, while a girl smokes and a couple head off on a boat journey.

On the track, Win Butler sings: "Those cool kids, stuck in the past / In a world of cigarette ash."

Listen to it now in all the usual places.

  19. New Order - live from Coronation Streetpublished at 09:26 BST 30 June 2017

New Order got a hero's welcome when they came home for the first of five gigs at the Manchester International Festival, external last night.

The festival always does things a bit differently, so for New Order that meant being joined by a 12-piece synthesizer ensemble on a specially-designed stage and avoiding their greatest hits, instead delving deeper into their back catalogue.

That all made it feel a bit more special for the crowd who were watching them in a former Granada TV studio. I think it's the one that used to house the indoor sets for Coronation Street.

The band took a while to warm up, mind you. Bernard Sumner spent the first half of the show looking pretty grumpy and complaining about technical problems. Now with grey hair and seemingly a bit shrunken in his frame, you could mistake him for cricket umpire Dickie Bird in a certain light.

I left just before the end to leg it up the road to see a Manchester band at the start of their careers - 14-piece hip-hop crew Levelz.

Fourteen people on the intimate stage at Gorilla meant it was bedlam, and their combined energy made it feel like they were ready to burst out of that place and onto a stage 10 times the size. And I don't think it will be long before that happens.

They also did a particularly brilliant encore.
