That's your lot for Tuesday, the most derided of all the days.

Scroll back down for news of Blink-182's move into telly sci-fi, a star-studded new Spider-man soundtrack, tour news from Cher and Suede, a Newbie Tuesday who was a bona fide West End star and a new streaming record for Queen (the band, not the Monarch).

We'll leave with more philosophical musings from one of the great minds of our age which begs the question, does that mean mowing is the shaving of God or merely a short back and sides?

  5. Amelia Monet: From Lion King to Afro Swingpublished at 13:47 GMT 11 December 2018

Newbie Tuesday #57: The talented teen exploring her circle of musical life

Eighteen-year-old North London singer Amelia Monet first caught the attention of her record label with a cover of SZA's Broken Clocks on Instagram live earlier this year.

But her introduction to fame came a decade ago, at the age of eight when she attended a Disney casting call for the West End production of The Lion King - one of London's longest running musicals.

More than 4000 people applied for the role with just four people eventually being selected to play the role of young Nala, the lioness.

    Amelia was one off them.

"Being in the Lion King was great for me. It was definitely one of the best experiences of my life and I will never forget it. You just feel so powerful on that stage, I can’t even describe it," she told Wonderland magazine earlier this year, external.

"I had no experience, I never even danced before and I had to learn a song and part of the script," she then told Music News LIVE.

The former child actress's current fanbase began by accident, when a picture posted on her Instagram account racked over 4,000 likes overnight.

Within a year, Amelia had amassed nearly 350,000 followers. Her YouTube account, on which she sings and does make-up tutorials has almost 120,000 subscribers.

To put that in perspective, that's almost three times the seating allocation at Wembley Stadium and goes a way to explain why, during her performance at Capital XTRA’S homegrown event, the audience sang every single song lyric back to her.

    Quote Message

It was so good, when you hear people not even singing your song but screaming every word and my name, it was insane, it was crazy.

Amelia admits to battling nerves while singing live but says the energy of the crowd is usually enough to see her through.

“I’ll be honest, I do very badly, but as soon as I go out there and feel the energy it’s cool,“ she explains.

“I feel their energy and match it and I’m like, 'Oh it’s a breeze now'.”

Newbie Tuesday artist Amelia Monet answers quickfire questions

In fact, if it weren't for her Insta-followers, she says, she might not even have a career.

"I started singing on the Instagram live stream and people were like, 'You need to do a cover'.

“I did SZA's Broken Clocks and my manager Carl saw it and messaged me saying, 'I want you to put out more music'."

Within the week, Amelia was in a studio with (17-year-old fellow YouTuber) EO singing her debut single, Baddest (below).

“Now it feels like this is what I’m meant to do,” she adds.

The single was produced by Dabeatfreakz - who have worked with artists like Mr Eazi, Chris Brown, Ellie Goulding and Usher - and the video has over 10m views.

“I really enjoyed working alongside EO," says Amelia. "At first, I was a little intimidated by the writing process but I’m focused on improvement.

“I’m going to get better, it’s a gradual thing, we did this together and made a masterpiece.”

Since signing with Dabeatfreakz she's been in the studio alongside artists like Deno, AJ, Cadet and Giggs.

“When I’m in the studio, they’re always there and I like it because I can get feedback and learn from their experiences.”

Amelia admits her status as a social media influencer has definitely helped her to get where she is today.

“I have a lot of fan pages who help me push my content - I’m in a group chat with all the fan pages.

“Out of nowhere, I’ll respond and they freak out,” she laughs.

“It’s all about love, there are people who message me regularly with things going on at home like bullying, and I reach out to them because no-one should ever feel isolated.”

With such a high-profile presence, Amelia says she has to learn to take the bad with the good on social media and claims even the trolls are helping push her forward.

"When I get hate I just think, 'I’m going to prove you wrong'.

“I’ve been trolled online by a girl before and I remember seeing her in person and she asked for a photo - she was saying, 'You’re so beautiful' and was like, 'Oh my God, I really love you'."

    “It is what it is.”

While her musical output ranges from pop to Afro Swing, Amelia says her influences include the likes of 2Pac, Biggie, Foxy Brown and Faith Evans.

Perhaps more surprisingly, Canadian crooner Paul Anka is another one of her favourites, a gift from her mum who spotted her daughter's talent at an early age.

The singer may have released one single so far but says it's time for a new generation to shine, adding she hopes to help people through her music.
