    6 Music DJ Maryanne Hobbs and Australian band The Avalanches are among those paying tribute to the Bad Seeds pianist who has died aged 58.

    The band called him: "Irascible, funny, terrifying, sentimental, warm-hearted, gentle, acerbic, honest, genuine." (Scroll down for more)

    Staff at the city's Royal Northern College of Music handed over an honorary fellowship to Bazza during his performance at the Manchester Arena on Sunday.

    "You know what they say, that giving is better than receiving - but not tonight," said the 75-year-old.

    "I tell you, something like this just inspires me to keep making make more and more and more music for you. So thanks for this ... thank you so much."

    The Radiohead frontman has taken to the red carpet in support of the new remake of horror movie Suspiria, for which he has composed the soundtrack.

    Speaking at a press conference, he admitted to being intimidated by the original 1977 movie's music, recorded by the director Dario Argento.

    "I watched the original film several times, and I loved it because it was of that time, an incredibly intense soundtrack.

    “It was one of those moments in your life where you want to run away but you know you’ll regret it if you do.”

    Of his new score, Tom said:“There’s a way of repeating in music that can hypnotise. I kept thinking to myself that it’s a form of making spells.

    “So when I was working in my studio I was making spells. I know it sounds really stupid, but that’s how I was thinking about it. It was a sort of freedom I’ve not had before."

    Dan Reynolds, the singer from Imagine Dragons (pictured above), has taken a stand on the track The Fall from Eminem's surprise album Kamikaze, which he released on Friday.

    The Fall sees Em, in full Slim Shady flow, hurl a homophobic slur (albeit self-edited) at Tyler, the Creator.

    Writing on Twitter, Dan said: "It’s never ok to say a word that is filled with hate.

    "I don’t care what year you were born in or what meaning it has to you. If it contributes to hate and bigotry then it is hateful. Period."

    Meanwhile, Bon Iver singer Justin Vernon - who performs vocals on the actual track - has also distanced himself from it, tweeting that he had asked Em to change the language.

    In another tweet, he added: We are gonn kill this track"

    Israel's public broadcaster has apologised to listeners after music by Richard Wagner was played on the radio.

    The 19th-Century German composer remains a controversial figure because of his anti-Semitism and because Hitler was a great fan.

    On Friday, a leading classical music station played part of Wagner's Götterdämmerung (Twilight of the Gods).

    In its apology, the broadcaster said the editor had erred in his "artistic choice".

    Well Blackpool is always referred to as the Birmingham of the north-west isn't it?

    In Britney's defence, it was dark and it was also the last night of her European tour.

    The video tweeted (above) shows the stage was right next to the famous illuminated tower for which the seaside town is famed.

    And she had performed at Birmingham’s Genting Arena only the day before.

    Still funny though.

    T, externalhe Aussie rockers are rumoured to be working on new material written and recorded before guitarist Young died last November following a battle with dementia.

    According to JAM Magazine (below), Young’s brother and fellow band member Angus is working on a new AC/DC album, to be dedicated to his memory.

    The music was apparently recorded in the early 2000s, prior to their 2008 album Black Ice.

    They "literally wrote hundreds of songs, many were recorded and have been stashed away until now".

    Benjamin Myers is the first British author to sign to the former White Stripe's frontman's Third Man Books.

    His historical novel, The Gallows Pole, is about an 18th Century Yorkshire gang behind one of the biggest forgery rackets of its time.

    He told 6 Music's Mary Anne Hobbs that Jack's latest publishing venture "is the perfect example of someone putting something back."

    "He's from the underground," he added. "He's had massive success and now he's investing money into cool things."

  10. Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds announce death of pianistpublished at 11:13 BST 3 September 2018

    The band have confirmed the death of Conway Savage at the age of 58.

    The Australian musician joined The Bad Seeds in 1990 and was diagnosed with a brain tumour in 2017.

    “Our beloved Conway passed away on Sunday evening,” they said in a statement, external.

    “A member of Bad Seeds for nearly thirty years, Conway was the anarchic thread that ran through the band’s live performances. He was much loved by everyone, band members and fans like."

    How do you follow up on one of the most viewed music videos of the year?

    It's a dilly of a pickle and one which faced actor and rapper Donald Glover aka Childish Gambino, the artist behind This Is America.

    His answer is a retro felling animated video for Feels Like Summer packed out with some of the biggest names in rap and R&B.

    U2 frontman Bono says he expects to be "back to full voice" for the rest of the band's tour a day after a Berlin show was cancelled over a vocal issue.

    "I've seen a great doctor," the singer said in a statement, adding that he was "happy and relieved that anything serious has been ruled out".

    U2 fans were left disappointed when the Berlin show was cut short on Saturday.

    The Irish band had played several songs before Bono apologised to the crowd, saying: "I think we can't go on."

    In his statement on Sunday, the singer said his "relief" at being able to return to performing was "tempered by the knowledge that the Berlin audience were so inconvenienced".

  13. Chris Evans to leave Radio 2 after 13 yearspublished at 10:27 BST 3 September 2018

    After 13 years here and 8 years on the Breakfast Show Chris announces his departure.

    The Breakfast show host made the announcement this morning.

    "I'm going to leave. I'm leaving Radio 2," he told listeners, promising to stay on air until Christmas.

    He's presented the breakfast show for the past eight years, having taken over from Terry Wogan.

    Explaining the decision, Chris said: "Some of us are mountain climbers [but] if you get to the top of your favourite mountain and you stay there, you become an observer.

    "I want to keep climbing."

    He is set to join the Virgin Radio Breakfast Show, calling it his “spiritual home”.

    “I see nothing but exciting and groundbreaking opportunities ahead," he said.

    For years, it has been the subject of conjecture - did the King of Pop really voice the character of Leon Kompowsky in the the season three premiere, Stark Raving Dad.

    The episode followed Homer as he was sent to a mental health institution and made friends with a white (well, yellow) bricklayer who claimed he was actually MJ.

    It also features a scene of the character and Bart singing a birthday song to Lisa.

    Jacko isn't credited and there has been much speculation about whether it was recorded by a vocal impersonator. Now creator Matt Groening has put the issue to bed once and for all (above).

    The former REM frontman has said he is leaving social media, as "it's definitely changing the way we approach each other and the way we approach problems".

    The singer has been to speaking to Newsnight about his online habits and has said the US President Donald Trump's enthusiastic tweeting is at least party responsible for a self-imposed social media exile, calling it "repellent and diminishing”.

    “Politics has been shaped by it, certainly in my country. We have a commander-in-chief who, rather than doing face-to-face interviews like this, would rather just tweet, which I find repellent and diminishing.”

    “I’m leaving Instagram this week in fact, I’ve had enough of it,” he continued.

    “I think that we deserve better and I feel like there might be a more generous platform to come along if enough people followed in my footsteps.

    "I have never been on Facebook, I have no interest in that and as a public figure, I think it’s not really a thing that I would do anyway…I don’t like being tracked and followed, I don’t like the idea that they’re keeping track of how I look at things and how much time I spend looking at things.”

    The Pastor at the helm of Aretha Franklin's funeral on Friday has apologised to singer Ariana Grande after he appeared to grope her breast following her performance of Natural Woman.

    Pulling the singer in for a hug, Charles Ellis III made an off colour gag about her name, joking he thought aftre seeing her name that she was "something new at Taco Bell".

    Many people on social media noticed Ariana's discomfort during the awkward exchange.

    Speaking following the funeral, Ellis said "I personally and sincerely apologise to Ariana and to her fans and to the whole Hispanic community.
