He said: "You know, I was brought up with two older brothers and they used to play stuff like Creedence and Neil Young and Dylan all the time when I was a kid.

"So when I heard him namecheck us, I was very kind of nervous [about] if it was true, and then very, very flattered.

Because I’ve spent a long time trying to writing lyrics that mean something to myself, and that hopefully other people can then relate to. So, to have something like that come from a guy who’s kind of the Shakespeare of music? It’s very… it’s a jab in the arm for sure. It’s encouraging, you know?”

The singer has also been speaking to Radio X, external about the new record, Scream Above The Sounds, which is out on 27 October.

Apparently one of the album tracks; Before Anyone Knew Our Name, is about late former drummer Stuart Cable.

"Stuart and I lived seven doors apart all our lives, and from the age of 12 I was in a band with him. So we were trying to be the people we became for a long time, before anybody knew who we were. So there's a lot of history there before we even had a record deal."

Frankly, we're surprised its taken James Corden this long to get around to Miley.

Still, she hasn't taken it personally and joined the funnyman presenter in his motor vehicle to perform classics from her back catalogue like Wrecking Ball and Party in the USA.

We're a little bit relieved that she let James do the driving.

"All the wrecks, I've had have mostly been in my own driveway. The most recent was at The Voice set and I was the last one to leave and I backed the car into the sound trailer.

"But I didn't tell anyone, I just left. But I had to go back the next day."

The pair also joked about 'that' infamous MTV VMAs performance alongside Robin Thicke.

Earlier, we asked you for your fave track from The Verve's 1997 classic album Urban Hymns - to mark the 20th anniversary of hitting the top of the UK album charts.

Thanks for getting involved, here's just few of your answers below via BBC Music Twitter, external.

Short of simply listing all 13 tracks (Deep Freeze being technically tagged on to the end of final song Come On) it seems that Sonnet may have won this one - just.

But only very marginally on points and we wouldn't mind a recount.

You're mostly agreed this album can be filed under "all killer/no filler".

  8. Michael Ball & Alfie Ball chase Westlife's signing world record...published at 13:12 BST 11 October 2017

Michael Ball and Alfie BoeImage source, Getty Images

Musical stars Michael Ball & Alfie Boe will mark the release of their forthcoming second album of duets with a bold world record attempt.

Following the success of 2016's Together, the pair will be Together Again on 27 October and to promote the album, they've set themselves the challenge of signing records in five different UK cities in under 24 hours.

The current record is held by Westlife, who visited five cities in a relatively leisurely 36 hours back in 2002. Remember?

The adventure will begin in Alfie's hometown Blackpool and head to Sheffield, Manchester and Nottingham, before culminating in a helicopter ride into London.

Now, according to our humble calculations, that's less than seven hours travel... say, nine with traffic.

Which means, that if they do two hours in each location, that's still a comfy five to seven hours downtime.

We're not sure it's much of a challenge to be honest lads, how's about throwing Inverness in there for good measure?...

In a statement (and apparently both at the same time) Michael, 55, and Alfie, 44, said:

    Quote Message

We are ecstatic (and slightly nervous) to be taking on a new challenge, especially one that allows us to meet fans all over the country! What better way to celebrate the new album?"

We wish you all the best

May the traffic gods be on your side.

Two musical legends are coming together for a new movie project.

Grime is the most "significant musical development within the UK for decades", according to the author of what's been called 'the first ever academic study' into the genre.

It's as "powerful and disruptive as punk", says Mykaell Riley, director of the Black Music Research Unit at the University of Westminster.

Of 2,000 general music fans questioned as part of the research, commissioned by Ticketmaster, 73% of those questioned were aware of grime, while 43% actually listen to it.

"The genre said 'we're not going to do things in a conventional way,' said Mr Riley.

    Sex PistolsImage source, Getty Images

"Grime has challenged contemporary music in its production aesthetic, in its lyrical approach, in its performance ethic.

The report also found #Grime4Corbyn led nearly 60% of fans to vote Labour in the snap election.

Artists like Stormzy (pictured above with Jeremy Corbyn) and Jme gave their backing to the online campaign and 58% of more than 600 grime fans questioned backed Labour.

More than one in five backed the Tories while just 8% opted for the Liberal Democrats.

"Any fan of mine who's a supporter of his, I'm drawing in the sand a line, you're either for or against," he raps in a new film, shown during last night's BET Hip Hop Awards in the US.

In the fierce four-minute freestyle, Em criticises the US President calling him a "racist 94-year-old grandpa".

In the video for his freestyle The Storm - which we would love to be able to bring you but for obvious language reasons, we can't - Eminem is shown in a car park, stepping towards the camera to rap directly to viewers.

"If you can't decide who you like more and you're split on who you should stand beside, I'll do it for you with this," he says, raising a middle finger.
