    Quite literally we mean.

The London band are so passionate about limiting their environmental impact that they've dedicated the new music video for their track, We're Dead, to looking at our relationship with plastic, recycling, and waste in general.

Not only is it eco-friendly but it's also a pretty cool video too - directed by film maker Samuel Lewis - and you can check it out above.

Bassist Sam Bailey said: "Being passionate about film-making and music videos, we really wanted to make something that would be active whilst we have platform and people's ears 'n' eyes.

"A song like We're Dead, which deals with the slow deterioration of our wellbeing, needs a call to arms."

He added: "This is our attempt to raise awareness and join campaigners who we admire for their ceaseless work in trying to slow down our circling of the cosmic drain."

It's hard enough for UK bands traipsing around the country all summer on the festival circuit but for Madrid-based indie rockers Hinds, it's a little more complicated.

They performed alongside Queens of the Stone, Iggy Pop, Run the Jewels and Miles Kane on Saturday afternoon, in London's Finsbury Park, which meant getting up at 4.30am for an early flight from the Spanish capital to the UK.

Luckily Ade, Amber, Ana and Carlotta are used to it by now.

Bass player Ade's mum and dad took a trip to sunny England to see them perform last weekend (and sensibly sat under a tree in the shade).

Now singer/guitarist Carlotta is going one better. She revealed to MNL that the band have another special VIP joining them at Latitude next week but this time to experience the full 'la vida loca' as the new fifth member of the band - her own mum.

"She's gonna definitely have the full experience of feeling very very tired and in an English festival", said Carlotta.

    "She's tougher than me, definitely"

    Listen above.

  7. Newbie Tuesday #34: Aeris Roves from The Drifters to Frank Oceanpublished at 13:28 BST 3 July 2018

    Kev Geoghegan
    Arts and entertainment reporter

    Aeris RovesImage source, Gabrielle Sky

Aeris Roves could just be the coolest name you've ever heard.

Think of it: "Aeris Roves, attorney at law... Aeris Roves, detective... heavyweight champion of the world, Aeeeeeeeris Roves!!"

Sadly, it's only a stage name but Kyle Miller, the artist who bears the name is starting to make a real name for himself with his equally cool take on UK R&B.

There are shades of Frank Ocean, The Weekend and Drake in his tracks Best Dressed Man and Feel Me, produced by Years & Years and Rag'N'Bone Man collaborator Two Inch Punch.

But he says his inspirations reach back farther than that.

"It's kind of soul infused, I take elements of hip hop, I take elements of soul and R&B and I try and put my own spin on it.

"But I like a lot of the old soul guys like The Drifters and Motown, they were a big influence on me growing up.

He references Drake's label pals Majid Jordan, external too.

Aeris was also handpicked to support US teenage pop princess Billie Eilish on her European tour and made his Great Escape debut earlier this summer, where he was stunned to find people singing his songs back at him.

"II always knew I wanted to do this, though you don't expect people to sing along, because you never know how your music is going to sit but you expect to push yourself and to keep developing.

    Quote Message

Yeah, there was a couple of people singing now but you want to get it to a point where there are load of people singing. I was just glad that everyone came down and supported because it matters so much.

Originally from Yorkshire but now based in London, Roves says that while he did not grow up in a particularly musical household ("nobody in my family is musical they listen to music for pleasure but passively"), he knew from early on that he wanted "to be that guy who was making music".

He performed in choirs (one school production even taking him to the O2) from a young age but it wasnt until he picked up his old man's battered guitar that he began writing.

"I love to watch other people perform because I respect anyone that take a leap and says 'I'm going to be a musician, I'm going to be artist and try an communicate my story through music'.

"I was like, i want to do that too so that's why I started writing music."

Opening for Eilish has provided Roves with his best gig so far (in Amsterdam, if you're interested) but he says he has yet to experience a horror show.

"I try and adapt if a show's not going well and make sure there's enough in my locker to sway it in my favour. Or the crowd's favour because sometimes my vision is not what the gig needs so I try and go with the crowd."

His fledgling relationship with Two Inch Punch, aka producer Ben Ash, has already born fruit with Ash describing Roves as, external "absolutely everything we've needed".

But the artist says he has also made sure he is able to record at a moment's notice with a set-up in his home.

    Quote Message

I record daily, as soon as I had the ability to make sure I had the equipment because music is a job and you have to make sure you have the tools to do what you need to do.

"I've spent a lot of time learning how to record, how to engineer and to produce and I still am learning aspects of songwriting."

Away from the mic, his passion include football, movies and gaming, "anything that's creative or gives me space".

"I cycle a lot," he adds. "A lot of my music comes from what I think about when I'm cycling, that's my space to reflect."

    And the name?

"Aeris, I think is Latin and Roves means to travel and I love to travel and experience different people and cultures, I use music as an escape."

So if you were only in town for one day and someone asked you how you are, you go into the good stuff… which generally doesn’t involve how anxious you feel [or] how depressed you feel.

He added: "I would say that chemical imbalance due to diet and the deterioration of my health was a huge, huge factor in my depression and eventual suicidal thoughts.

"I developed [dietary] intolerances that would lead to existential depression on a daily basis. I would eat a certain thing and then all day I would feel like there was just no point."

The LA singer-songwriter has pulled out of a forthcoming performance at the Montreal Jazz Festival in Canada in protest at another show on the bill which features white performers singing African-American slave songs.

Drake's new album Scorpion has only been out since Friday, but it's already made history.

The album broke streaming records on both Apple Music and Spotify, with more than 302m plays in a single day.

It seems everyone likes Drake right? Wrong.

Some Spotify users complained the streaming service put his photo on hundreds of playlists - including ones that didn't feature his music, such as "Best of British".

Subscribers who'd paid for premium, ad-free accounts said it amounted to advertising and demanded refunds.

One subscriber said he had been offered one month's free subscription as a result of his complaint.

The U2 frontman and activist has warned international institutions like the United Nations, European Union and NATO are under threat and said nations worldwide must work together to keep them alive.

Speaking at an event on Monday to launch Ireland’s candidacy for a seat on the UN's Security Council in 2021-22, the singer said we are living in "troubled times" and confirmed: "You can count on Ireland to do its part in that work.”

As Billboard reports, external, Bono said of the UN: “I love that it exists, and I’ll tell you, I don’t take for granted that it exists, or that it will continue to exist because let’s be honest, we live in a time when institutions as vital to human progress as the United Nations are under attack.”

To sweeten the deal, the Irish government apparently invited ambassadors from the 192 other UN member nations to U2's gig at Madison Square Garden in New York on Sunday night, with Bono later joking it was; “unusual having a load of ambassadors jumping up and down at a rock and roll show.”

"At least you weren’t shouting at each other, so that was good," he added.

He's been involved on some of the most famous songs in history so we suppose it's only right that Nile has been offered a new job representing songwriters.

The star confirmed he is the new chairman of the Songwriters Hall of Fame.

The Chic co-founder who was inducted himself in 2016 - was unanimously elected by the board to serve as the organisation's chair for the next three years.

Nile said he was "truly honoured and beyond humbled to be elected by such an esteemed group as this illustrious board," adding he would "try and serve with all my heart".

Previous inductees include Jay Z, Max Martin, Linda Perry and Ray Davies

Responding to fans congratulations on social media, Nile said he would work hard to represent writers behind the scenes.

Being pregnant is certainly not slowing the Queens rapper down.

If anything she's ramping up with the success of new single, I Like it.

The Latino collab with Bad Bunny and J Balvin has gone to the top of the US chart, making her the first female rapper ever to have two US number ones.

In October Cardi became the first female in 17 years - since Lauryn Hill - to score a top-selling single Stateside with her debut Bodak Yellow (Money Moves).

To put that in context, that means during the two-decade period, the likes of Missy Elliott, Nicki Minaj, Lil Kim, Queen Latifah and Eve have never had a number one single but Cardi now has two.

She's also now the first female solo artist this decade, to have two number ones from a debut album and the first since Lady Gaga’s The Fame, in 2008.

The 25-year-old celebrated by posting a video of her twerking next to her bed on Instagram and also left a message of thanks to her fans on Twitter, saying: "Y'all made it happen.

"I'm so happy and so thankful.

That's right folks - it's the day we've all be waiting for...

    • James Blake talks about mental health issues
    • Meat Loaf is set to tour... just minus the singing
    • A Newbie Tuesday act mixing the new and old of soul music
    • Nile Rodgers has become a statesman (of sorts)

While we get warmed up check out one of Drizzy's new tracks featuring the unmistakable tones late great Michael Jackson above.
