BBC 6 Music

Last but not least today is part deux (as they say in parts of Canada) of our Arcade Fire news.

Fresh from the first of three nights at Wembley Arena (scroll down for more on that), the Montreal band performed two tunes live from Maida Vale for 6 Music's Tom Ravenscroft and had a chat about fighting through the audience to reach their boxing ring in the round, surprise guests, and how support act The Preservation Hall Jazz Band have become like family.

The band also prank Ravers, proving that humour can get lost in translation, or - at the very least - when chatting down an ISDN line.

It's his first single since his 2017 collab with Sia on Dusk Till Dawn.

Earlier today, Zayn chatted to Grimmy on BBC Radio 1 about dealing with the anxiety that prevented him from performing live in support of his first record.

Mind of Mine topped the charts in several countries in 2016, but Zayn didn't take it on the road.

Now his second album is about to come out, he says he is ready.

He told the breakfast show host:

Zayn says he has been working on his personal issues after leaving One Direction in 2015.

"I didn't know what was going on for a while," he explained.

"I was just putting out a record and not really being as prominent as I wanted to be.

"But this time around I feel like I am more confident and I really believe in what's going on, so I want to convey that to my fans."

Although he hasn't announced any dates yet, he told Grimmy he is currently rehearsing for his tour and has a full band in place.

Turbulent then?

As we told you earlier this week on MNL, the reformed 80s group have announced a new UK tour and are working on their first album in almost two decades.

Speaking on The One Show last night, frontman Boy George revealed that he and guitarist Roy Hay still "push each other's buttons" to this day, though.

Roy recently asked George to sing more soulfully, "like Mick Hucknall" he told Alex Jones and Matt Baker.

"You have to let people be who they are" said the singer.

"People don't change, you have to change the way you react to them. That's true in every relationship."

The 56-year-old went on to add that the upcoming tour might be a tad different from tours of days gone by.

"At 19 you can stay up all night ... I can't get away with that, I'm just not made of all that stuff anymore and I have to sleep."

Harry Styles showed his support for the LGBT community during his first show at London’s O2 last night.

While performing his acoustic track Sweet Creature, the audience pulled out their camera phones - standard at most gigs these days (except for Jack White as he wants your full attention).

But this wasn't any old rendition of Put Ya Lighters Up. The crowd had been given rainbow tickets, and when asked to light up their phones, they put a filter over their torch to change its colour.

The result? Each section represented a different colour of the rainbow.

How delightful. We wonder if there was a pot of gold at the end?

The idea was the initiative of Rainbow Direction, a collective "encouraging fans to bring rainbows to concerts & create safe spaces since 2014."

BBC Breakfast

The Aussie pop star was on the BBC Breakfast couch this morning in order to promote her new album, Golden.

Kyles turns 50 in May and was asked by 43-year-old presenter Naga Munchetty how she's feeling as the landmark approaches.

"Life is really really good right now" she said.

As was widely documented, the singer split from fiance Joshua Sasse at the start of 2017 and admitted that last year was tough.

"It was a year of re-building myself and getting to know myself again and how I fit into the world and what I want."

R.E.M guitarist Peter Buck and fellow musician Joseph Arthur have combined skills on a new venture under the name of Arthur Buck (see what they've done there?).

Their self-titled album drops on 15 June.

Check out their new single I Am The Moment below.

Arthur had previously supported Buck's legendary band and the new project began when the old musical pals ran into one another in Mexico last year.

Buck told Rolling Stone, external magazine: "It was really spontaneous and kind of magical in its own way, as [being in Mexico] we were kind of disconnected from everything."

We wonder if tequila was involved?

Zayn's new track, Let Me, is going to be premiering at 13:00 today on Radio 1.

So that's potentially going to be an awkward three minutes or so for someone out there.

Fans of the Canadian indie band, who were lucky enough to be at Wembley Arena in London last night, were treated to a couple of high profile guest cameos.

Luckily for us, one fan caught Chrissie Hynde's appearance on camera as she performed The Pretenders classic Don't Get Me Wrong with Win Butler and co.

Chrissie then swiftly departed but returned for an encore of the band's Wake Up, alongside another surprise guest - Bryce Dessner of the National.

When South Yorkshire Police raided Sir Cliff Richard's home in August 2014, he was in Portugal, but the BBC was outside, with a helicopter standing by.

News programmes broadcast pictures and named Sir Cliff as a suspect in an alleged historical sexual assault.

Correspondent Dan Johnson had arranged in advance with South Yorkshire Police that the BBC would be outside the gated property.

Sir Cliff denied the allegation, was questioned but was never arrested or charged.

He sued the police force and the BBC for breach of privacy and data protection.

The force settled the case against it - paying substantial damages - and apologised to the star for the "distress and humiliation" caused by disclosing his private information to the BBC.

The BBC has said it is very sorry for the distress caused to Sir Cliff by its coverage of the raid, but is contesting his legal claim.

Sir Cliff's case against the BBC has enormous importance in determining whether anyone under investigation by the police can lawfully be identified by the media before they are charged.

Accordingly, it also has massive implications for the way in which the media is allowed to report the early stages of a police investigation.

French DJ-producer DJ Snake accompanies his fiery beats by putting out a huge blaze in his new video, Magenta Riddim.

The vid was filmed in a small town in southern India, echoing the track's Indian rhythms and is sure to get you dancing in your seat on this gloomy April morning.

It was directed by Gal Muggia and Vania Heymann, who also worked on Coldplay's "Up and Up" video.

Warren Patterson claims the NYC rap collective used his photograph on their controversial hip hop record Once Upon a Time in Shaolin, without consent or compensation.

Now Patterson is suing the band for copyright infringement and at least $1 million in damages.

The photographer claims he spent 80 hours shooting photos of the silver case with the Wu-Tang logo which features on the album cover.

As Pitchfork reports, external the court case names band members Method Man, RZA, Raekwon, Cappadonna, Ghostface Killah, GZA, Inspectah Deck, Masta Killa, and U-God as the defendants.

A single copy of the double album was released in 2015 and reportedly sold for millions.

It was bought by now disgraced pharmaceuticals exec Martin Shkreli, who was later imprisoned for fraud and ordered to forfeit the record to the US government.

In 2015 Shkreli was described as "the most hated man in America" after hiking up the price of HIV drugs.

Here's RZA (below) telling Bloomberg Politics about the band's decision to sell the record to him a few years back.

A rise in income from British music has created an "exciting time for new artists", record labels have told BBC's Newsbeat.

According to the BPI, which represents the UK's recorded music industry, record companies made £839m in 2017.

That's a 10.6% increase compared to 2016 - the fastest growth since 1995.

"It's taken that long for the industry to level itself out after the challenges of piracy," Gennaro Castaldo from the BPI says.

"Then there was also the digital revolution. It's finding its feet now."

The figures - which refer to the takings from streaming, downloads, physical sales and licensing for films, TV and computer games - have been driven by established names like Ed Sheeran, Sam Smith and Little Mix.

"They're now being joined by people like J Hus and Dua Lipa," explains Gennaro.

"What labels do brilliantly is to take that money and reinvest it.

"There's an incredible ecosystem - of course you've got established major labels carrying a lot of the weight but it [the rise in revenue] leaves space for dynamic labels.

"They're smaller operations but they're no less creative - they can find the right way to develop an audience."

Promoting his new album, Revamp, which features versions of some of his biggest hits by the likes of Lady Gaga, Ed Sheeran and Pink, Sir Elt has been telling BBC Radio 5 live's Nihal Arthanayake that he still has great passion for new music and loves working with talented new acts.

However the Rocket Man believes that modern artists must try harder.

Having praised Stormzy and Kendrick Lamar in particular, the 71-year-old warned that there was a danger of the pop industry losing the skill of songwriting.

He said: "When you listen to even the cheesiest songs from the ‘50s, ‘60s and ‘70s - they are songs.

Yesterday, The Overtones announced the very sad news that group member Timmy Matley had died at the age of 36.

The group shared the news on their official Twitter page.

The singer, from Cork, was diagnosed with stage three malignant melanoma - a form of skin cancer - in 2016.

Timmy's agent said the singer "died suddenly" on Monday but the cause of death has not yet been confirmed.

Back in December, Timmy announced that he was planning a charity skydive to raise money for The Royal Marsden Cancer Charity.

He described the cause as "very close to my heart", and had raised over £5,000 for the skydive, which was due to take place in May.

Phillip Schofield, Caroline Flack and Scarlett Moffatt have been among those to pay tribute to the singer.

Timmy, along with bandmates Lachie Chapman, Mike Crawshaw, Mark Franks and Darren Everest, specialise in doo-wop performances and released five albums, four of which charted in the UK top 10.

Their album Good Ol' Fashioned Love peaked at number four in 2011.
