The British rock legends have announced a new US tour and, to go with it, they've also pledged new music.

It will be their first since 2006 album, Endless Wire.

Speaking to Rolling Stone about the band's 29-date North American tour, guitarist Pete Townshend said: “I said I was not going to sign any contracts unless we have new material.

“This has nothing to do with wanting a hit album. It has nothing to do with the fact that The Who need a new album. It’s purely personal. It’s about my pride, my sense of self-worth and self-dignity as a writer.”

Apparently he hoped Roger Daltrey will record vocals later this year for a 2019 release.

  10. The Weeknd slammed for new 'homophobic' lyricspublished at 12:47 GMT 14 January 2019

    The WeekndImage source, Getty Images

The Canadian R&B singer dropped his new collab with French techno producer Gesaffelstein last week.

One of the verses from Lost in the Fire has angered people and left him facing accusations of homophobia.

The verse, which we can't reprint here, due to graphic language is about dating a girl who said she “might be into girls” and he suggests she is “going through a phase”.

In response, he tells her she should “bring a friend” for a threesome, and that doing so will make her straight.

British indie star Marika Hackman: "Well done...for managing to deride, fetishise and dismiss lesbianism all in one verse."

Another Twiiter user Kaicey said the lyrics are "the reason LGBT people stay in the closet".

She added: "As a part of that community I just want to say that it’s not a phase for me. Don’t ever dismiss it as a phase."

Writer Jill Gutowitz called the lyrics "vile".

MNL has asked The Weeknd for comment.

In a wide-ranging interview with The Los Angeles Times, external, Coachella founder Paul Tollett said:

“He has some great [production] ideas, but we just weren’t able to pull them off right now,” Tollett said about Kanye. “I’d like to circle back with him and figure out a future plan of what to do with what’s in his head.

"Up until 1 Jan, we were making a poster with Kanye on it."

  13. Robbie Williams 'torments' Led Zeppelin's Jimmy Page in home rowpublished at 11:50 GMT 14 January 2019

Robbie Williams is "blasting Black Sabbath music" to torment his rock star neighbour Jimmy Page over their bitter home extension row, according to a complaint to their local council.

The Take That singer won a five-year battle when he was granted conditional approval last year to build a basement swimming pool at his London home.

Page fears excavation work will damage his 1875 Grade-I listed mansion.

Williams is also said to be imitating Page's former bandmate Led Zeppelin Robert Plant.

A letter to the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea states that as well as Sabbath, the singer has been playing Pink Floyd and Deep Purple songs at high volume, as "he knows this upsets" the 75-year-old Led Zeppelin guitarist, who has lived at Tower House for more than 46 years.

But Maroon 5 and co's decisions to perform next month isn't without controversy.

There have been calls for them to pull out because of the NFL's harsh stance over players refusing to stand when the US national anthem is played, in protest against the treatment of black people in the US.

The Super Bowl takes place on 3 February 2019 in Atlanta and it's been rumoured that stars including Rihanna and Cardi B have refused to perform at the show, external.

According to reports from the US, Scott signed on only after the NFL agreed to join him in donating to a cause for social justice.

He's apparently made a $500,000 donation in partnership with the NFL to "social justice accelerator" Dream Corps.

In a statement reported by Billboard, external, Scott said: “I back anyone who takes a stand for what they believe in.

"I know being an artist that it’s in my power to inspire. So before confirming the Super Bowl Halftime performance, I made sure to partner with the NFL on this important donation."

Missy Elliott made history on Saturday by becoming the first female hip-hop artist to be inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame.

Only the third rapper ever inducted, Missy tweeted that she was "so humbly grateful."

The announcement was made on CBS This Morning in the US and Hall of Fame chairman Nile Rodgers paid a glowing tribute to Missy, describing her as "one of my favourite writers of all time."

We bet Nile says that about all the nominees.

"To me, it's important to have equality," he added.

"I've written with a lot of women songwriters, but not nearly enough. That's sort of my secret goal - I want to have more women songwriters."

    Missy ElliottImage source, Getty Images

Speaking to Music News LIVE at the Wilderness Festival last summer, Nile told us: "Songwriting is the only part of the business that is almost equally represented by women as it is men, I've never met someone who has said, 'I don't want to sing that song because it's been written by a women,' like that would never happen.

"It's always been a place of good opportunity for women but still not quite equal and I want to try and do something that's makes a difference."

Also going into that most-esteemed Hall, alongside Missy, are fellow songwriters Dallas Austin, Tom T. Hall and John Prine, as well as Jack Tempchin and Yusuf Islam - formerly Cat Stevens.

Riding high following the huge success of their documentary, After the Screaming Stops, brothers Matt and Luke Goss have announced a big show in London this summer.

Bros will play the O2 Academy Brixton on 5 July 2019, with tickets on sale this Friday.

They played two sold out O2 Arena shows in London in 2017 - the build up to which was documented in the new film, which became cult viewing over the festive period due to the brother's cod philosophical pronouncements and inadvertent one-liners.

Like this from Luke on his hometown: "I'm a Londoner. Embankment. Big Ben. Cab drivers."

    Well, quite.

“After the phenomenal response to the Bros film we’re genuinely looking forward to a more intimate show in our home town," said Matt.

The lads made the announcement on Good Morning Britain (above), from different studios... naturally.

The panel were clearly unimpressed with the Arctic Monkeys' "lounge singer shimmer", as their chart-topping-yet-fan-splitting album, Tranquility Base Hotel + Casino, got overlooked entirely despite its Mercury nomination and appearance on many end of year critics' lists of the best albums of 2018.

The Sheffield band however will be firm favourites for best group; where they square off against last year's winners Gorillaz, pop architects Years & Years, Matty Healy's The 1975 and Little Mix - who receive the ninth nomination of their career.

The girls performed live on ITV on Saturday afternoon (above), next to a book shelf, as the awards were announced.

Sam Fender (below) was given his Brits Critics' Choice award on the show too by presenter Clara Amfo and the Geordie described the early accolade as "absolutely crackers."

You can scroll down this page for a taste of his performance.

Check out the full list of nominees for this year's Brit Awards.

The 2019 Brits ceremony will take place on Wednesday 20 February at London's O2 Arena - hosted again by comedian Jack Whitehall - and we'll be running a special MNL page on the night from about 17:00 GMT, so join us then.

  18. Zoe Ball commands R.E.S.P.E.C.T on Radio 2 brekky show debutpublished at 09:22 GMT 14 January 2019

    Zoe Ball

The DJ kicked off her brand new show as BBC Radio 2's first female weekday breakfast host by playing Aretha's Respect.

"It had to be a dame on this occasion," she told listeners.

Zoe has taken over from Chris Evans in the most listened-to slot on the UK airwaves.

She began Monday's show with the words: "Hello, my name is Zoe. How's your belly off for spots?"

    Nope, us neither.

Apparently the saying is an alternative way of asking: "How are you?"

Her predecessor was listened to by around nine million listeners every morning and as with every other established show which has a new presenter in place, response to Zoe on social media (below) has been been mixed.
