  6. It was 50 years ago today...published at 14:49 BST 3 April 2017

Well not quite (the anniversary is actually on 1 June) but 2017 year is nevertheless the 50th anniversary of the Beatles ' seminal album Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band.

Recorded under the guise of an Edwardian marching band, the early concept album has frequently topped "best album ever" lists - although in recent years it's often been eclipsed by the band's Revolver album and the Beach Boys' Pet Sounds.

But what is beyond debate is that the recording process, at Abbey Road studios in north London, heralded some truly groundbreaking techniques which influenced almost every rock album that followed.

BBC Arts editor Will Gompertz has been along to the studio to meet with one of the men who helped make the magic happen...

Well, it's the beginning of a new month, spring is in the air and we have a shower of goodies for you today.

It's getting better all the time...
