Dave Grohl and Krist Novoselic hinted at a Nirvana reunion last week and on Saturday night, it happened, with Joan Jett taking Kurt Cobain's place at the mic.

Joan previously joined the band in 2014 at their Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction.

Friday night's show marked just the second time they have performed together since Kurt’s death in 1994.

Dave, Krist and the Foo's Pat Smear ran through six tracks in all. "What else could I say?," tweeted Joan (below).

The Queen biopic, telling the story of one of Britain’s most iconic rock bands has sparked curiosity for even the most casual fans of the band.

Now, some of the lucky few who have already seen the film have been posting their reactions on social media.

The movie centres on lead singer Freddie Mercury's life leading up to Queen’s Live Aid performance at Wembley Stadium in 1985.

There seems to be round praise for US actor Rami Malek's performance as the flamboyant frontman.

  7. BBC to broadcast Bowie: The First Five Yearspublished at 13:11 BST 8 October 2018

    Media caption,

David Bowie: The First Five Years, coming soon to BBC Two

A film about David Bowie's formative years is coming to BBC Two in 2019, while BBC Four will broadcast his legendary headline performance at Glastonbury in 2000, later this month.

David Bowie: The First Five Years is the final part of a trilogy of films and follows The Last Five Years in 2017 and Five Years in 2013, all produced and directed by Francis Whately.

The film - which airs 50 years after the release of Space Oddity - explores Bowie before Ziggy.

“I spent all my formative years adopting guises and changing roles," he says in the film. "I wanted to be accepted as David Bowie - a person that you will always watch to see what kind of thing he is doing.”

The film also unearths a report from the BBC Archives, based on the 1965 audition of a band called David Bowie and the Lower Third.

The report described the future megastar as having “no personality” and being “not particularly exciting”.

Check out the drummer Phil Lancaster (above) in a clip from the doc.

The Mercury-nominee and protest punk legend were at London's Waterloo station earlier to launch an exhibition commemorating 70 years of album artwork.

It's all part of the run-up to the UK's first National Album Day, this Saturday.

The covers on display were chosen by a panel of experts including Nov, who said: "I love art myself so when I heard about it, it was right up my street."

The selected covers include albums by Grace Jones, Stevie Wonder, The Sex Pistols and The Strokes.

Bragg added: "I think there's three facets to pop music - the music, the lyrics, and the look and image - the album cover.

"For those of us who weren't glamorous, who aren't pretty, who can't dance, the album cover was an opportunity to put across a real important vibe, it is something that should be given more attention than it is."

The public exhibition will launch at London’s Waterloo Station before travelling to Manchester Piccadilly and Glasgow Central Station.

The public will be invited to select 3 pieces of art from the 70 selected albums and can cast their votes at www.ArtVinyl.com, external.
