  2. 5 Things We've Learned This Weekpublished at 15:37 BST 25 August 2017

    Missy ElliottImage source, Getty Images

    1) US hip hop fans want Missy Elliott to replace a confederate monument

One of them this week started a campaign to get a statue of the Get Ur Freak On rapper to be erected in place of a Confederate monument, external.

It's following violent clashes between white supremacists and protesters in Charlottesville, Virginia after the announcement of the planned removal of a statue of Confederate general Robert E. Lee.

In a pun-tastic letter to the mayor, Virginia resident Nathan Coflin proposed that it should instead be replaced by one of the Virginia-born rapper.

He said: “Getting this statue put up will be a lot of work and you may ask yourself is it worth it?

“I say yes and ask you to join me in letting us work it. Together we can put white supremacy down, flip it and reverse it.

“Missy is all of us. Missy is everything the Confederacy was not.”

At time of writing the petition has over 31,000 names and counting and was also vocally backed by US indie rock band The Shins.

Solar eclipse 2017: Bonnie Tyler performs Total Eclipse

    2) Bonnie Tyler sang Total Ecplise of the Heart during an actual total eclipse...

...on a cruise, alongside DNCE's Joe Jonas.

Now what's not to love about that sentence? Check it for yourselves above.

It was truly one of the most surreal things we have seen this week/year/in our lives and on average is not expected to happen again for another 38 years or so.

By then Bonnie will be 104 years old.

    3) The KLF re-emerged after exactly 23 years.

From the surreal to the ridiculous.

This week also saw the mysterious return of pioneering UK electronic act The KLF, aka The Justified Ancients of Mu Mu.

After more than two decades away the band, who once famously burned a million pounds, returned for a midnight signing of their new book 2023.

On Tuesday night, former dance duo Bill Drummond and Jimmy Cauty showed up to a bookshop in Liverpool on board a battered old ice cream van to sign...no await, stamp copies of their dystopian novel.

The BBC's Colin Paterson was there and managed to get his book signed. Though his request for an interview was sadly denied he did get a few words out of Bill (below)...

    Media caption,

    Sleaford Mods

    4) The old idea of the 'rock star' is dead

So said Sleaford Mod Jason Williamson (above) backstage at Green Man Festival in Wales' beautiful Brecon Beacons.

The Nottingham post-punk electro double act pulled a large crowd out of the rain and into the Far Out Stage on Sunday night.

Before the gig the frontman confessed that he and beats-maker Andrew Fearn don't consider themselves to be a rock stars...or, would you believe, even intend to shock people.

"I think the idea of the rock star died with the last century" he said.

"Alright fair enough, you've got your pop bands who live that life - the biggies. You know what i mean, who appeal to a different market.

    Quote Message

But I think it's pretty much spent that idea of being elegantly wasted! It's certainly a device that belonged more to the last century than this one."

Elsewhere at Green Man headliner PJ Harvey produced her only UK performance of the year.

    Sheridan SmithImage source, Getty Images

    And last but not least...

    5) Actress Sheridan Smith is to release an album of her favourite songs.

Award-laden thespian Sheridan Smith this week announced her intention to drop her debut album this year.

Sheridan, who won a National Television Award for playing Scouse singer Cilla Black in a 2014 ITV biopic, said on Twitter: "It has been an ambition since a child to record my own album so I'm incredibly excited to be recording some of my favourite songs."

Dan Chalmers of East West Records - which will release the record - called Sheridan "a genuine talent".

Last year's biggest selling debut artist was game show host and actor Bradley Walsh and only a fool would bet against Sheridan taking a run at that title this year.

With any luck her Estelle/Kanye West cover will make it on to the tracklist...

So the annual double-headed Bank Holiday beast is well and truly underway.

QOTSA rocked a not-so-secret secret set at the northern leg earlier and later Liam Gallagher (above) - who is not in Ibiza - will be joining them. He'd be wise to bring one of his many cagouls.

    Don't try this at home.

If you're not there and wish you were, then fear not...as from 14:30 BST each day you can watch the action unfold on the BBC.

New Scottish resident (maybe) Eminem - who headlined back in 2001 and 2013 - will headline the event for a third time, alongside hopefully well again Kasabian and Muse.

Not a bad looking lineup then.

Well it's a good job it's a long weekend coming up as we all have a lot of new music to listen to.

Not least the new self-titled third album from US girl band Fifth Harmony.

It's their first one since the band lost their "Leading Diva", according to Rolling Stone, external, who give it three and a half stars.

By that they mean former group member and now solo star Camila Cabello.

Hollywood Life, external have been delving deep into the lyrical content, in search of references to ex Harmonizer.

They think the girls are singing about Camila on closing track Bridges. What do you reckon?

Can’t spend time in rewind, I’m sorry / Many times I remind myself / We’ve come way too far in our stories / To build these walls and to blind ourselves / And for every action, there’s a reaction...

You'll have to judge that one for yourselves.

If you don't mind the odd swear word then you can check out their latest video for track eight Angel here., external But remember, we did warn you.

  15. The Sky is the limit for Foo Fighters on new trackpublished at 10:30 BST 25 August 2017

    Rolling Stone magazine

Dave Grohl of Foo FightersImage source, Reuters

It's also a Neighborhood apparently, in the latest cut from their forthcoming album Concrete and Gold.

The Seattle rockers recorded their latest full length effort down the road from QOTSA (scroll down for more on their new album) and singer Josh Homme confessed a few weeks back that he had to turf a rather "tipsy" Dave out of their studio in order to get things done.

You can understand why Dave would have been "enjoying himself" after having just cut this celestial banger.

    Check it below.

Speaking about the new science-inspired track, US magazine Rolling Stone found Dave on fine philosophical form.

He credits a YouTube musical mashup of astrophysicist Neil DeGrasse Tyson discussing the wonders of the universe with Time Magazine, as the starting point for the track.

And you were all thinking they only did rocked up love songs.

Dave said: "It basically talks about the atoms that comprise life on Earth and make up the human body are traceable to the beginnings of our universe.

"Stars that go unstable and collapse and explode and just scatter their guts, their fundamental ingredients of life are all over the universe and forming solar systems and stars orbiting planets have the ingredients for life itself.

    Quote Message

And when you look up at the night sky, you realize that you're not only part of the universe, but the universe is part of us. It really moves me."

    Cosmic man.

The new album is out down here on planet earth on 15 September.

The rap star's fans could not say the same.

They got drenched at Bellahouston Park, after queuing all morning to see their main man and fellow US hip hop stars Run the Jewels (above).

It looked well worth the wait though as Marshall Mathers appeared in a "Fack Trump" (whatever that means) t-shirt and declared that Scotland may have to become his new home as "[things] ain’t going so well in the States."

According to the Glasgow Evening Times, external, he added: "Thanks so much for making us feel at home because we are going to live here now."

I'm sure some friendly 'Weegie family would put them up.

The 44-year-old rapper will headline Reading on Saturday before travelling back up north to play sister festival Leeds on Sunday night.

He's going to get to know those M1/M6 service stations pretty well by the end of this weekend. As for the stage, well there's not much more anyone can teach him about that.

  17. QOTSA release new album Villainspublished at 09:38 BST 25 August 2017

    BBC 6 Music

So while Taylor is bringing some venomous pop today, the rock 'n' roll comes courtesy of California desert rockers Queens of the Stone Age.

They return with their seventh studio album Villains. Or as the band themselves put it: The Evil Has Landed.

Josh Homme and co popped into 6 Music for a chat yesterday and confirmed to Lauren - rather unconvincingly - that they won't be playing a surprise show at Reading & Leeds this weekend as they're already booked in to play a kid's birthday party. Honest...

Check out the band performing Domesticated Animals from the new record in the Live Room above.

    Media caption,

Josh chats about working with Mark Ronson on the new Queens of the Stone Age album.

If just a taste is not enough then you can feast yourselves on the full session here.

The new album was produced by the horn master general Mark Ronson. Here's frontman Josh (above) on how the superstar producer worked his way into their world.

And here's their latest banging single...

    So what do you think?

Look What You Made Me Do, which dropped at midnight, is Taylor's first new single since her collab with Zayn (I Don't Wanna Live Forever), and finds her pulling no punches,

But who is she fighting back at?

    Verse one:

I don't like your little games / Don't like your titled stage.

    Hmmmm...

    Gooooooooood morning music news fans!

Have we got a LIVE page for you today.

That was a statement by the way, not a question. Taylor Swift is back and on fighting form. We'll have reaction from around the music world to her return.

(Hands up who knew Tay Tay was a Right Said Fred fan. Anyone?)

Plus more from Queens of the Stone Age as they return too with a brand new album. Could they be the ahem, Villains of the piece today?

Josh Homme of QOTSAImage source, Getty Images

Fifth Harmony have an LP out too (that's long-play kids) and The Killers and Foo Fighters drop fresh singles as well.

It's all going on! We'll also have news of Eminem warming up for Reading/Leeds with a politically-charged show in rainy Glasgow.

Later on we'll reveal 5 Things We've Learned This Week. You'll want to be armed with that information ahead of this Bank Holiday weekend.

    Right then, let's have it!
