So with a heavy heart we say goodbye for the day.

We've loved bringing you an unexpectedly festive Music News Live today but alas, all good things must come to an end.

We'll leave you with our #ThrowbackThursday today from 1997, when Richard Ashcroft strolled menacingly down the high street to the sound of an instant classic and in doing so earned his right to wear sunglasses on the BBC Breakfast sofa - and any other sofa - again today.

Scroll down for Richard's maverick appearance alongside Charlie and Naga this morning, plus JT's throat issues, Drake's 32nd and Christmas coming early for Iggy Pop/'Shatner Claus' and Tyler, the Creator/The Grinch.

See you tomorrow for New Music Friday and 5 Things We Learned This Week.

The California-loving hip hop star has shared a pic of him and Em in the studio together in the latter's hometown Detroit.

Bar a few guest album/live appearances the pair have never officially released a single together.

Could that be about to change?

It may just have been a friendly visit but surely they didn't let Snoop leave without dropping a few bars at least?

Snoop kicks off a three night run in Motor City tonight where the weather is looking bright.

    No drizzle, fo shizzle.

  5. Watch Richard Ashcroft run riot on BBC Breakfastpublished at 14:01 BST 25 October 2018

    BBC Breakfast

    Media caption,

Former Verve frontman Richard Ashcroft leaps over TV sofa

The former Verve man surprised BBC Breakfast presenters Charlie Stayt and Naga Munchetty this morning when he climbed over (and then lay down) on the famous sofa.

Ashcroft explained that his new album, Natural Rebel, is "about breaking the order of things," after proving to the viewers that the backdrop behind was not real.

He also, like any true rock 'n' roller, refused to take his sunglasses off indoors.

"I've great respect for these guys as journalists," he said.

"But I'm the only one on the couch who can wear glasses right now."

It's compulsive viewing and you can check it out above.

The 47-year-old goes on to declare that he's "never had a bad review off a good-looking person" and that perhaps Glastonbury Festival is now bigger than its own headline acts.

The Verve headlined the Worthy Farm event back in 2008.

KT told DJ Mark Goodier about her first meeting with hero Chrissie Hynde, from one of her "all-time favourite bands" The Pretenders, who she ended up supporting on tour.

"There's a picture of me meeting her and I am playing it so cool," said KT.

"I totally look like I've got myself together and I do not!

"I was really just completely overwhelmed and it was so nice to see her again and finally get some time on the road with The Pretenders."

OK, time to feast your eyes on some new music videos now.

First up is Our Girl, as frontwoman Soph Nathan finds herself in a bath of teddy bears and later surrounded by lots of cups of tea.

For some this would be heaven. The sink full of cereal however is a bit much for us.

The former MNL Newbie Tuesday act released their debut album Stranger Today a few months back and you can check out the new video for Being Around above.

Next up, Las Vegas pop rockers Imagine Dragons are guilty of getting a bit big-headed in the video for their track Zero.

They also develop some cool computer game alter-egos as they grapple with the harsh realities of the world around them.

According to singer Dan Reynolds the video is about "that journey of feeling like nothing and trying to realise and recognise your worth as a human is an important part of life.

"And given the distorted version of reality kids face online and the expectations that come with it," he added, "this struggle is real for so many people right now.”

The track appears on their fourth studio album, Origins, which is out on 9 November, and you can that video out above too.

Last but by no means least is everybody's favourite Madrid indie four-piece, Hinds.

Las chicas returned this year with their second album, I Don't Run and a bid "to save rock 'n' roll."

Now after having spent some more time over on these shores, playing alongside the likes of Queens of the Stone Age & friends, Hinds think they're starting to understand the British Mind.

They set themselves the challenge of writing the new track in the space of a few weeks off in between touring and you can watch the fruits of their labours above.

With November’s US midterm elections drawing ever closer, the Legend himself and fellow smash hit songwriter Linda Perry have launched a new social media campaign with a musical message to encourage more people into the voting booth.

The a cappella viral song, entitled Get Up and Vote, gets straight to the point and goes a little something like this:

Can’t give up on hope / Gotta get up and vote / Gotta get up and vote

The likes of Christina Aguilera, Jessica Simpson and Alicia Keys have also joined the movement, which will feature a new song each Tuesday until election day on 6 November.

Question is US readers: Will you?

    Talk about 'difficult second album.'

Phoenix, the follow-up to her self-titled 2012 debut album will be with us at long last on 23 November, the singer has announced today.

In a statement Rita, who this week admitted to having suffered from cyberbullying, said: “One of the most liberating feelings for me is performing and creating music.

    Quote Message

This album is a true labour of love, and it was important for me to do it my way.

She added: "To my fans, thank you for your patience and thank you always for listening.”

The record will include chart hits like Anywhere, the Ed Sheeran-written Your Song and For You; Rita's Fifty Shades Freed duet with Liam Payne, as well as her controversial track, Girls.

Rita and featured artists Cardi B, Bebe Rexha & Charli XCX had to defend themselves for that one after coming under criticism from the LGBTQ+ community. Rita said at the time that the track was an account of a real life experience.

Avicii, Rudimental and Julia Michaels also appear on the new album and you can check out a teaser above.

Poor JT had to cancel his big gig at New York’s Madison Square Garden last night on the advice of his doctor.

The singer, who will need a lozenge or two, today tweeted his apologies to fans and promised to "make this up to you" when the re-arranged concert goes ahead on his 38th birthday, 31 January.

    “Hey guys," wrote Justin.

"I’m sorry to announce I have to postpone the show at MSG tonight on doctor’s orders.

"My vocal cords are severely bruised.

"I’m gonna make this up to you and the new show will be on my birthday.”

  15. Matt Helders says solo music will sound like John Carpenterpublished at 09:51 BST 25 October 2018

    Matt HeldersImage source, Getty Images

Moving through the seasons now, from Christmas back to Halloween.

The Arctic Monkeys drummer revealed he's working on a solo album earlier this month and now he's suggested that the new music might sound like the score to a horror film.

Now speaking to Seattle radio station KEXP, external, Matt said: “I’ve got a little studio set up at home now that, when I’m there, I can commit some time to.

“That’s basically old drum machines and synthesisers - a bit more electronic and a bit more like soundtrack-y, like a John Carpenter kind of thing.”

Carpenter is perhaps best known for directing and scoring the 1978 American slasher film Halloween, which starred Jamie Lee Curtis.

    John CarpenterImage source, Getty Images

Helders added: “There isn’t really a goal for what it will be yet. I’m just trying to drop in the tools in case, whether it’s a score or a record or what.

"I’m just enjoying it as a hobby and, when that leads to something, I think that feels a bit better for me when it’s, like, just something I wanted to do and have interest in.”

  16. Iggy Pop and 'Shatner Claus' get into festive spiritpublished at 09:24 BST 25 October 2018

    Iggy PopImage source, Getty Images

We wouldn't normally do Christmas-related stories in October but for this we'll make an exception.

Question: Have you ever wondered what it would sound like if William Shatner - aka Captain Kirk from Star Trek - and Iggy Pop recorded a version of the Christmas classic Silent Night?

If your answer is no then we'd suggest you move along immediately.

If it's a yes then you might be interested to know that the new track is taken from the actor's first-ever festive record, the upcoming Shatner Claus.

You might remember he did a David Bowie covers album, Seeking Major Tom, and a prog rock concept album.

The new one will feature him singing Christmas hits with the help of some other special guests, including Henry Rollins, ZZ Top's Billy Gibbons, Rick Wakeman, Ian Anderson of Jethro Tull and Todd Rundgren.

It's out tomorrow but you can hear Silent Night above now.

Christmas really has come early music fans.

But are they even selling advent calendars yet?

  17. Welcome backpublished at 09:02 BST 25 October 2018

    Morning folks

Thanks for choosing MNL once again for all your music news needs between now and 16:00 BST.

    • Liam Payne and Louis Tomlinson to reunite for an episode of Celebrity Gogglebox

Before all that though, how about a new Hottest Record from old Major Lazer buddies Ellie Goulding and Diplo.
