Right we're all off home - with or without you.

We'll leave you with a surprise treat that Simon Mayo received ahead of the weekend, as Bono called the Radio 2 DJ to request a David Bowie song and to talk about U2's Joshua Tree 30 tour (plenty more on that below too).

Scroll down for plenty of festival news and to find out what happened to Jay-Z's new album. It's currently AWOL.

As well as Wireless, BST, TRNSMT and U2, which all took place this weekend, there were also Pride celebrations across the country.

More than 26,000 people joined a rainbow-coloured parade through central London alone, for the annual celebration of the LGBT community.

There were also events in Manchester, Cardiff and elsewhere.

Singer Sam Smith (above) was buzzing for the event and he posted the below message urging people to "be safe & be PROUD."

And what could be more safe than a dancing policeman?

    Nothing. That's what.

  3. Niall Horan announces first solo tourpublished at 15:49 BST 10 July 2017

Every pop band needs a "sensible one". The person who keeps the train on the rails, checking contracts and perusing itineraries, and shutting down interviews when their bandmates get carried away.

Take That have Gary Barlow; Girls Aloud had Kimberly Walsh; and One Direction had Niall Horan: The non-tattooed, blue-eyed "good boy" of the band.

So it was a revelation when his second single, Slow Hands, turned out to be one of the best 1D solo efforts so far. He's not trying as hard as Harry, he's not as filthy as Zayn, he's just making solid, catchy pop songs.

Having spent the last year writing his debut album, the star has announced plans to preview the material at a series of intimate shows.

Well, they're intimate for a former member of One Direction, encompassing 2-3,000 capacity venues like London's Shepherd's Bush Empire, Brazil's Vivo Rio and New York's legendary Beacon Theatre. Most bands would kill to play those halls...

The tour kicks off in Ireland, and the full list of dates is available here, external.

While we were in Hyde Park with Tom and Stevie, The Weeknd was bringing down the curtain on another London festival, Wireless.

Check out the man himself making the whole of Finsbury Park bounce below.

Chance the Rapper and Skepta were the other headliners but there was a lot of love for the Starboy singer on social media. One girl described the gig as "the best night of my life."

    High praise indeed.

  5. The Maccabees: Listen to Felix White's 6 Music playlistpublished at 14:56 BST 10 July 2017

    BBC 6 Music

So last week there was not a dry eye in the (indie) house as The Maccabees called it a day after an emotionally-charged final ever gig at Alexandra Palace in London.

Guitarist Felix White has been looking back on his old band's career by making a 6 Music playlist, featuring tracks from the likes of The Walker Brothers, Roots Manuva and Idles.

There are also tales from the tour bus and the best story you'll ever hear about Flavour Flav's clock.

Along with throwing a TV out of a window and wearing sunglasses indoors, getting chucked off a flight ranks high on the list of rock-star cliches.

Now US rappers Migos have fallen into that very trap, after they were flung off a Delta Flight for disobeying instructions.

The rap trio were about to fly to a gig in Iowa when band member Takeoff was taken off for refusing to fasten his seatbelt or put his bag in the overhead compartment.

According to US publication TMZ, Migos’ manager put it down to Takeoff (not his real name) being "exhausted".

His bandmates Quavo and Offset left the plane of their own accord.

The band were put on a later flight and just about made it to their gig, arriving a fashionable one hour late.

  8. Lumineers: We got locked out of our first ever UK gigpublished at 13:46 BST 10 July 2017

More now from BST at Hyde Park, where Colorado-based US country rockers The Lumineers had the honour/pressure of providing the main support for Mr T Petty.

We bumped into drummer Jeremiah Fraites before the gig and he told us a funny story about his band's first ever gig experience on these shores.

He said: "Our first ever gig was in a restaurant in London - like a 120-200 cap room.

"We played the gig and then tried to do a cool encore.

"We left, the door closed and we got locked out. We found ourselves in an alley trying to get back in.

"The crowd were singing 'Lum-in-eers, Lum-in-eers'..."

He added: "Someone eventually found us. Some women drove past and rolled her window down and said 'what are you doing?'

"It was very surreal. We got given a cheeseburger though and I remember thinking 'this is pretty sweet. A cheese burger and we get to do a gig!'"

The cheeseburger venues may now be a thing of the past but The Lumineers are hungrier than ever having recently got their teeth stuck into a massive tour supporting stadium giants U2.

Jer described the experience "humbling" and said the band enjoyed learning more about the big time from Bono and the boys.

He said: "Just watching them perform, you can't take your eyes off them.

"At first we were scared of festivals and stadiums.

"But we've learned to take songs and make them work live by playing them faster or adding extra percussion - little tricks that expand the sound."

So go on then, what's Bono really like?

"Bono gets a lot of flak and is an easy target because of all his charity work.

"But after meeting him you can tell he's someone who really cares."

  10. 'We are not heartless people' say Green Day after acrobat's deathpublished at 13:02 BST 10 July 2017

    Green DayImage source, Getty Images

Californian punks Green Day have hit back after being criticised for performing their headline set at Madrid's Mad Cool Festival shortly after an acrobat plunged to his death in front of festival goers.

Pedro Aunión Monroy fell 100 ft while attempting a stunt and died from his injuries soon after.

In a statement on Green Day's site, external, frontman Billie Joe Armstrong said: "Green Day did not hear about the accident until after our show was over. We didn't even know there was an acrobat performance at all.

"These festivals are huge. There are so many things happening at the same time it's impossible to keep up with every performer/artist. We were in a back stage compound about a half-mile away from the main festival stage.

"Everything seemed normal. The crowd and fans had a good time."

He added: "All of us were in disbelief. I don't know why the authorities chose not to tell us about the accident before our concert.

    Quote Message

If we had known prior to our performance we most likely would not have played at all. We are not heartless people.

"What happened to Pedro is unthinkable.

"Once again we are heartbroken for his friends and family. We are also shocked and heartbroken for anyone that had to witness this tragedy."

Festival organisers stated the festival continued as scheduled for "security reasons."

  11. Ed Sheeran penalised by new chart rulespublished at 12:26 BST 10 July 2017

    Ed SheeranImage source, PA

Jay-Z wasn't the only superstar to have suffered a chart blow this weekend.

Last week, the Official Charts Company overhauled the way it compiles the Top 40 Singles in an effort to stop A-list artists elbowing newer acts out of the way.

The move was prompted by Ed Sheeran, whose new album ÷ [Divide] proved so popular that it propelled 16 tracks into the top 20 in March.

Appropriately, he seems to be the main victim of the new rules, with several of his songs adversely affected.

Last week, Sheeran had eight songs in the Top 100. This week, he has three.

To be fair, four of those former hits dropped out naturally, because their sales declined following a brief, post-Glastonbury peak.

But another song was excluded from the countdown because, under the new system, artists are only allowed a maximum of three songs on the chart at any one time.

    Jade BirdImage source, Jade Bird

    Listen up ladies...

That's the advice of singer-songwriter Jade Bird, who was contemplating Ellie Goulding's observations about the lack of female artists currently on the festival circuit.

The BBC Introducing star played "one of the best gigs I've done I think" at BST in Hyde Park yesterday, in support of one of her heroes Stevie Nicks.

Jade confessed: "I've been creeping past her trailer like 'You might not know me but I know you!'...I'd get on with Stevie."

The singer said she saw the lack of fellow females as an opportunity, noting that "you can't define people based on gender".

She said: "Naturally it's sad but I'm optimistic.

"We've got so much more opportunity now, you've got to see it that way and fight inequality.

"It's the only industry where women are getting paid the same, if not more."

She added: "You need both energies [male and female] and you can't define people based on gender.

"God that sounds really hippy doesn't it!"

Jade told us that she viewed gender inequality as "a massive challenge" but was inspired by strong women like her mum and grandma...oh and Laura Marling.

Her advice to other young girls playing guitar on the end of their beds?

"I'd say get good, get ballsy and get an opinion

"If everything is 'meh' then that's no good."

The man behind Scotland's newest and biggest music festival, TRNSMT, says hosting it was a "dream come true".

Around 120,000 fans enjoyed headliners Radiohead, Kasabian and Biffy Clyro in Glasgow Green over the weekend.

Some people questioned how TRNSMT would stack up against fellow Scottish festival T in the Park, which is taking a break after having ground problems.

But organiser Geoff Ellis - who organises both festivals - told Newsbeat: "It went better than we could have expected for the first year."

    Geoff Ellis

He added: "We fully intend to be back with TRNSMT next year."

However, he wasn't as certain about T in the Park returning after a year off.

"We've not got any plans at the moment that have come to fruition...we'll tell people in due course."

The band have been asked by Artists for Palestine UK, external to join their cultural boycott of performing in Israel.

Elsewhere, police confirmed eight people were arrested at the festival over drug possession with intent to supply, fraud and public nuisance offences.

Basically the rapper's streaming service Tidal failed to report their streaming numbers to Nielsen Music.

Clumsy or tactical? We'll have to look out for its re-appearance in next week's charts.

For now you can listen again to Radio 1/1Xtra's album listening party again here.

Could this album be Jay's last though? Adele and Ace are a bit concerned...

In other US chart news DJ Khaled’s single Grateful reigned supreme over the weekend, while in the UK Despacito; the smash hit collab between Luis Fonsi (below), Daddy Yankee and Justin Bieber remains in top spot.

Bieber didn't play the track in Hyde Park recently.

Time to brush up on your Spanish Justin.

It's Spanglish at best at the moment.

Summer is a magical time of year - the days stretching into one another as the tarmac steams and fruit ripens under a cloudless sky.

The warm-weather splendour also gives rise to a unique cultural phenomenon: The Summer Song.

Euphoric, frothy and fun - it's often as fleeting as the season itself, falling out of favour as soon as the leaves fall off the trees.

An early contender for this year's title seems to be Luis Fonsi's Despacito, external - a slinky, sensual slice of reggaeton ("despacito" means "slowly," referring to the speed of his seduction technique).

A worldwide hit earlier this year, it received a boost in the UK and the US after Justin Bieber jumped on the remix, singing an extra verse in a mixture of English and phonetically-learned Spanish.

But after eight weeks at number one, it could just be an extended drum-roll for thereal song of the summer... whose identity we've yet to discover.

So what makes a summer smash? We've worked out six of the key ingredients below; while stars including Royal Blood, Dua Lipa and Clean Bandit nominated their song of the summer on this page.

Ireland's finest played two nights at the home of English rugby this weekend and were joined on stage by everyone's favourite Irish Manc for a special version of his anthem Don't Look Back In Anger.

Referencing three recent tragedies, Noel dedicated the song to "the people of Manchester, Grenfell Tower and London Bridge."

U2 also paid an emotional tribute to murdered MP Jo Cox as they brought their Joshua Tree tour to the UK.

Bono, who worked with the MP on the Make Poverty History campaign, dedicated Ultraviolet (Light My Way) to her memory.

"She lived her life championing the lives of others" he said.

Mrs Cox, 41, was shot and stabbed in June last year during the EU referendum campaign.

The singer also called London the 'capital of the world' and thanked Britain for "looking after the Irish".

He said: "We came to this great Great Britain and we thank you for looking after the Irish", before expressing his thanks for the "safety" and "sanctuary" given.

"We hope that won't stop" he added.

Fans on social media (including Noel himself) thought the show was "amazing" and "perfect."

Noel's brother Liam is less of a U2 fan by the looks of it. We're guessing his invite was lost in the post...
