We've saved the most ridiculous story of the day for last.

Last night, American actress Lena Dunham and singer Ben Lee came good on their promise to host an evening anaylsing the sibling relationship between Noel and Liam Gallagher.

The event, called Champagne Superanalysis - which came about after they both watched and enjoyed the Oasis documentary, Supersonic, back in the summer - was attended by Brad Pitt, who made an explosive welcome speech, which we can't repeat on here.

Other star guest contributions to the 'discussion' came from film director Spike Jonze and singer/songwriter Lisa Loeb.

Why did they do it?

We don't know why... why, why, why, wh-y-y-y...

We don't have any stats to hand but we'd guess that Drizzy must be one of the most covered artists in the double L.

UK DJ/producer Jax Jones is the latest to have a crack at the Canadian champ with his rendition of Nice for What, with the help of Kamille and the House Gospel Choir.

"The original band name was The Fontaines," explains Fontaines D.C bass player Conor Deegan III, down the line from their Dublin rehearsal room.

"It came from the movie The Godfather. There's a wedding singer at the start - a jazz singer - and he’s basically a fictional facsimile of Frank Sinatra. His name is Johnny Fontaine.

"We kind of just wanted to have that connection to jazz in the band name."

He adds: "But it turned out there’s a Fontaines in L.A who existed before us and tried to sue us, so we had to change it to D.C, which stands for Dublin City, and I'm really glad we added that as it's just that extra level of us in the name."

In truth - rather than in mobster semi-fiction - Conor's band are less Italian jazz bar and more inner city Transatlantic surf shack.

The five piece, who have been supported by BBC Music Introducing in Belfast and London, first came to the attention of many BBC Radio 6 Music listeners earlier this year with the upbeat garage rock 'n' roll of Chequeless Wreckless (below). It comprises two minutes and 15 seconds worth of rapid fire poetic ranting over a familiar guitar riff and driving rhythm section.

"That one, I think, is from the position of a character who was being very judgmental and very know-it-all about life," says Conor.

"That’s the kind of character that [singer] Grian said he was inhibiting, and I suppose the things he’s saying are really valid in the lyrics, but it's kind of contrasted with ‘who is he to say that?'"

The track also sees the band - or the protagonist, at least - go after 'phonies', 'hypocrites' and 'sell-outs'. An attitude that has seen them gain respect from the likes of Shame, who they'll support tonight in Leeds (and for the rest of November) and Idles, who they'll join on tour in the States next year.

No phonies need apply.

"I think there’s a big movement of genuine expression in alternative music these days - with Idles and Shame," declares the bassist.

"They build a great community with all their fans and they have valuable things to say. I suppose they’re reacting against something, I don’t know... like the artificial nature of reality.

As for the metaphorical lyrical sandpit?

"You can get in and play with it [money] and have a good time but it doesn't really get you anywhere and it's very stationary and you're digging and digging but you’re not doing anything because it’s the bottom of it.

"It’s not gonna get the soul anywhere... but it's something to do I guess."

The Irish rockers have only been at it for two and half years but have already put the finishing touches on their debut album which they hope will be out around May next year.

Their new track, Too Real (above), was Radio 1's Next Wave track last night and they were also named as one of the first 50 picks for the 2019 Great Escape festival, external, which brings the best new bands down to Brighton each summer.

"We had a band before that but we were jamming different songs and slightly different style," admits Conor, "Then, when [guitarist] Carlos [O'Connell] joined, we kind of took things more seriously and evolved a bit in our tastes."

More specifically, their tastes include The Ramones and The Libertines and putting a Dublin slant on a certain fun-loving Californian band led by Brian Wilson.

"In a lyrical sense it’s influenced by life in The Liberties. We see a lot of mad stuff in Dublin sometimes, you know?

"There’s some great characters like, that’s why we put these characters on the front of the singles. They’re all real people - they’re not from cartoons or anything like that. Real people who walk the streets.

"I suppose in a lot ways we’re trying to put out music that’s as authentic as possible - and part of that authenticity is being a band that lives in Dublin and sees things that happen in Dublin - and obviously we want to write about that."

Conor muses: "What’s the old saying? 'We all feel the same things deep down, doesn’t matter if you're in Dublin or Dubai.'"

They may view themselves as just "some lads from Dublin" (when did that ever work out for a rock 'n' roll band?) but F-D.C have already started to make a splash on both sides of the Atlantic.

Conor credits the craziest moment of the journey so far being when US DJ John Richards invited them over to Seattle to play live on KEXP, external (below).

He takes up the story: "When we put out Chequeless Wreckless we got feedback from different blogs, and we got an email from John saying 'you guys are [bleeping] awesome!'

"He said 'if you guys come over to Seattle I can guarantee you a slot on the radio.'

"And we were like: 'Man, are we gonna not do this? Some lads from Dublin are we gonna miss this chance?' So we just went for it.

"We go through all the borders security in Dublin and we played it and we did it. We were there at nine o'clock in the morning all fresh-faced."

Slightly earlier than the rock 'n' rollers usually get down to business?

Conor jokes: "Maybe just a bit later might be more appropriate."

Once upon a time, in the early days of grime (back in 2003)... Dizzee Rascal and Wiley fell out.

Fourteen years later, and the insults are still flying.

"The War has Officially STARTED" tweeted Wiley, shortly after the self-styled Godfather of Grime released his track, Flip The Table, on Monday.

In it, he makes a pointed reference to the Boy in Da Corner singer, accusing him, once again, of bailing on the grime scene .

Last month Wiley turned his ire on Skepta in a video on his Instagram Story, after it was revealed the rapper and Dizzee were working on a new track together.

“Dizzee and Skepta on a tune, you know what? Neither of you lot can talk to me, I’m not talking to you. That’s it, done. You made your bed now you can go and lie in it," he ranted.

In an expletive-strewn rant that is too blue to link to here, he concluded: "You will never be able to beat me at my own game, ever."

Neither DIzzee Rascal or Skepta have yet responded to the release of Flip the Table.

Grime pioneer Wiley is reported to be the subject of a forthcoming biopic tracing his roots as a performer on pirate radio and his onward journey to worldwide fame.

“When I make music, help the scene or even do something like this, it’s like I’m not alone any more," he told Variety.

"It’s for people who grew up like me. I’m doing it to help people who are lost like me.”

Following in *Peter Kay's footsteps, Cardi B says buying a house for her mum has made her "childhood dreams come true".

The 26-year-old rapper shared a video of the New York home on Instagram on Monday (bad language alert).

"I waited, I waited, I waited, I waited 'til I could afford a dream home, and I copped it," she said.

"It's always been a dream to buy my mother a house. Last year I was so thirsty to buy my mom a house but the ones I was interested for her weren't at my price range.

"I worked and worked and now I'm here!" she said in the video caption.

It's been a big year for Cardi B.

The Bodak Yellow singer gave birth to a daughter, Kulture, earlier this year and saw her debut album, Invasion of Privacy, reach number one in the US.

She is rumoured to be appearing as a judge on the forthcoming Netflix talent show Rhythm & Flow, set to debut next year.

Some celebrity wedding news now (second only in the popularity stakes to baby news!).

The US singer/actress and her muso hubby Taylor Goldsmith have tied the knot in Los Angeles.

Moore posted the above pic of her and the Dawes frontman on Insta shortly after their nuptials.

Apparently the couple met on Instagram, when Moore - a Dawes fan - posted a pic of the album cover.

Congrats to the Moore-Goldsmiths.

US rapper 6ix9ine, aka Tekashi 6ix9ine, could be looking at life imprisonment.

The rapper, real name Daniel Hernandez, is facing charges including conspiracy to commit murder, armed robbery and illegal ownership of a semi-automatic rifle.

He was arrested on Sunday, following a five-year investigation against him and his former management team.

The 22-year-old was denied bail and is currently in custody accused of being a member of “a violent sect of the Bloods” gang.

Ex-manager Kifano “Shottie” Jordan, plus members of his security detail: Faheem “Crippy” Walter, Jensel “Ish” Butler and Jamel “Mel Murda” Jones were also arrested over the weekend on separate charges.

Hernandez, who was riding high in the US charts earlier this summer with his track Fefe, has yet to comment publicly on the allegations.

The rapper is already on probation, after he pleaded guilty in 2015 to the use of a child in a sexual performance.

Last week, in a video on Instagram, Hernandez attempted to distance himself from his former associates saying he had fired them and they were "no longer around".

On Saturday - before his arrest - he was taken into protective custody, after prosecutors suggested his life was in danger following threats by former associates.

6ix9ine broke into the mainstream late last year, and has since worked with with the likes of Nicki Minaj, Offset and Young Thug.

His album Dummy Boy is due to be released on Friday.

Mumford & Sons have announced "with a really heavy heart" that fans in Liverpool, Cardiff, Sheffield and Manchester will have to wait a little longer to see them in all their banjo bashing glory.

The band have been forced to postpone shows in the above-mentioned cities "due to unforeseen technical and logistical challenges" presented by the set.

"The Delta tour is by far the most ambitious show we've put together and we have had to free up some space in the schedule to be able to execute it," said a Twitter post yesterday.

"The truth is that it is simply not humanely possible to play these particular shows at this time."

Apologising, the band said the obstacles to performing only became apparent on arrival in Belfast where they played on Sunday.

The tour - timed to coincide with their fourth album - kicked off in Dublin earlier this month.

Guiding Light, the first single off the album, was released in October.

Cambridge Folk Festival have revealed this morning that multi-Grammy award-winning Louisiana singer Lucinda Williams, Jose Gonzalez and Richard Thompson of Fairport Convention will be on the line-up at the event from 1-4 August, as well as Tuung and Ralph McTell.

Set in Cherry Hinton Hill Park, it's one of the longest-running folk festivals, held annually since 1965, with a capacity of around 14,000.

It was previously announced that Cambridge local Nick Mulvey is a guest curator/performer.

From the folkies festival to the big one for metalheads - and now, those of a heavier rock persuasion.

The next wave of acts for Download have just been announced, including The Smashing Pumpkins, Slayer - who will play their last ever UK show - Eagles of Death Metal, Lamb of God, Anthrax and a bunch of new acts.

It follows the previous reveal of headliners Def Leppard, Slipknot and Tool, making some noise at Donington Park from 14-16 June.

Finally big news for London-based Field Day festival.

Like Taylor Swift before them (scroll down), they have a new home too.

After years in the capital's Victoria Park, the event will move to south London's Brockwell Park for this year only.

And today they've revealed that from 2020, it's moving to a new permanent location, an old gas works in Meridian Water, north London.

The new site is made up of a massive 10-acre outdoor space, with four giant interlinked warehouses.

It will mean the bands can go on much later - and louder.

Enfield Council are leading a £6bn, 20-year regeneration of the area. Think Twenty-Four Hour Party People...

Next year's festival takes place on the 7-8 June; the line-up will be announced in due course.

Jesy Nelson from the girl group has hit back at provocative TV presenter Piers Morgan after he criticised their use of flesh in the video for new track, Strip.

The visuals for the latest song, taken from their new album LM5, sees the girls get naked to reveal insults that have been labelled at them - such as 'ugly', 'fat' and 'slutty', written all over their bodies.

On the track, they encourage other women of all shapes and sizes to strip off and be comfortable with their own bodies.

However, speaking on Good Morning Britain, Morgan suggested that it wasn't about female empowerment at all, but about "using sex to sell records".

When asked by Radio 1 DJ Nick Grimshaw if Morgan's comments surprised them, during a live Radio 1 interview yesterday, Jesy did not hold back.

“Of course not, he’s a silly ****," she said, drawing gasps and apologies from the other band members and the host.

Piers subsequently challenged the band to go on his show and to say it to his face.

Now now, children.

GMB later mocked up an image of Piers being given the Strip treatment, joking that they used "words we're allowed to put on breakfast telly."

Keeping moving while they still can, The Rolling Stones have announced a forthcoming stadium tour stateside next year.

Fans in cities across the US - the names of which singer Mick Jagger has kindly sung for you all above - will be able flock to see the legendary British band on the latest leg of their No Filter tour.

Among the 13 dates announced will be concerts in Florida and Texas in April, California and Washington DC in May and New Jersey in June.

Tickets go on sale on 30 November.

A man claiming to be Prince's son plans to sue the singer's estate, according to an exclusive on celebrity news website The Blast, external.

The Blast reports that court documents reveal Ogeda Patrick has filed a Notice of Impending Civil Action claiming the estate has “erroneously (habitually) omitted Mr Patrick as the true heir to the Prince Estate”.

Mr Patrick first claimed he was the singer's son last year, but a judge ruled in May that he had not established sufficient facts to establish" the reasonable possibility" that Prince might have been his father.

No genetic testing was ever done.

The acclaimed musician died from an accidental overdose of painkillers at the age of 57.

His body was discovered in a lift in his Minnesota home in April 2016.

Calvin Cordozar Broadus Jr - aka Snoop Doggy Dog - has been honoured with own star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

The West Coast rapper thanked music producer Quincy Jones - who was at the ceremony (above) - for helping to guide him through his career and said, in turn, he now hoped to now help other young hip hop stars to "cut through the mess early".

Snoop said: "He has always been like a mentor to us, been like a big brother to us, helping us understand we needed to be more positive and instrumental with our voices.

"Now I'm looking back on it I can say I am thankful for Quincy being who he was - for trying to tell us to get our lives right, be more positive and more productive because now that I'm a positive and productive man I can walk around more peaceful, more happy.

Also on hand, as Hollywood Boulevard was brought to a standstill, were fellow rappers Dr Dre, Pharrell Williams and Warren G - and US TV show host Jimmy Kimmel.

Watch above as Dre recalls the importance to him of working on Snoop's debut album.

Snoop, however, in true Doggy-style, saved the most praise for somebody much closer to home.

"I want to thank me for believing in me, I want to thank me for doing all this hard work, I want to thank me for having no days off, I want to thank me for never quitting, I want to thank me for always being a giver and trying to give more than I receive.

Gaz Coombes has been forced to cancel tour dates after his daughter broke his leg.

Yes, you read that right - the World's Strongest Man singer was taken down his 15-year-old daughter.

Announcing the news on Twitter, the former Supergrass frontman said he got "Bruce Lee'd'" while "larking around with the kids".

Welcome to Daddy daycare.

The 42-year-old former Supergrass singer underwent surgery on Monday and thanked the "wonderful NHS", promising he would be "back soon".

He has been forced to cancel tour dates in the coming weeks in Utrecht, Lille, Spain and Italy.

UK tour dates have been rescheduled to May.
