    Back again (in festival news today).

    Finally, a second US music festival option for those of you who aren't going back to Benidorm again this summer to consider.

    As well as Coachella (scroll down), rapper Eminem will also headline The Governors Ball in New York City, alongside Jack White, Travis Scott and Yeah Yeah Yeahs.

    We wonder if President Donald Trump and his mate Kanye might pop along to catch Em?

    Good news for rock fans, US singer Brody Dalle also known as Mrs Josh Homme of Queens of the Stone Age, has posted a new video suggesting her band The Distillers are reforming this year.

    She posted the above clip with the message THE DISTILLERS 2018.

    There are no more details currently but the band released their last album in 2003 and split up in 2006.

    The newly-engaged Royal and his bride-to-be are to head to Reprezent Radio, external in Brixton, South London, next Tuesday to learn more about using music and radio for "social impact".

    The visit of big Killers fan Prince Harry and Meghan Markle to the youth-based platform - which describes itself as "the sound of young London" - has caused quite a stir in and around the station.

    DJ Remi 'The Road Blocker' even took the trouble to frame the official Kensington Palace tweet.

    "Where are all the bands?" he's asked on Twitter.

    "It's a festival?!"

    Some fans have pointed out that we could ask the same question about his own band.

    The band may have parted ways (we think) for the second time but Ian, John, Mani and Reni made a tidy bundle thanks to their lucrative live shows in 2016 and 2017.

    According to documents , externalwinding up their touring company, Second Touring, it shows they made just under £11m from gigs.

    At their last show in Glasgow in June last year, singer Ian Brown (pictured above) reportedly told the crowd at Hampden Park Stadium: “Don’t be sad it’s over, be happy that it happened.”

    In the US charts stakes at least.

    The US rapper joins only Ringo's old band and Ashanti (below) in having seen her first three songs land in the top 10 at the same time.

    That's after Cardi's breakthrough hit Bodak Yellow returned to the top 10 yesterday putting her in esteemed company.

    She's posted a profanity-laced video online of her celebrating, alongside a message of thanks.

    "What a great way to start my year," she wrote.

    "Thank you Lord. Only you and i know how much i pray to you.

    "These last few weeks been too much for me but my Lord always find a way to uplift me."

    Yesterday we brought you Sir Macca's message for his old Beatles mucker, now another former bandmate's widow has forwarded her joy at the drummer receiving his knighhood.

    Japanese artist Yoko Ono, who was of course married to John Lennon, said: "It's an honour for everyone in The Beatles family and I love you very much".

    Yoko failed to mention whether or not she was a fan of his work on Thomas the Tank Engine but that goes without saying really.

    So The Killers had the official Hottest Record of last year with The Man.

    Now, here we go again for another year of new music...

    Starting with Hey Heartbreaker from UK/Icelandic punks Dream Wife.

    Radio 1 DJ Daniel P Carter loves the "Debbie Harry" vibe of the track from the band - who met at Brighton uni - and you might too.

    It's taken from their self-titled debut album which drops on 26 January and you can check it above.

    Everybody Wants To Be Famous was Annie Mac's first pick of the new year, after she resumed her duties from Daniel P last night.

    But someone should really tell Superorganism that's the name of their new track as there seems to be some confusion.

    New Year brain freeze. It happens.

    The BBC Sound of 2018 listees told Annie how almost all of the multi-cultural pop experimentalists have now relocated from around the UK, Japan, Australia and New Zealand, to live under one roof in an East London house share.

    Seven of them at least (don't panic, the eighth member is living in a basement around the corner).

    The NME declared the band - who shot to public attention performing their ear wormy track Something For Your Mind, external on Jools Holland - to be "The Avalanches for a new generation."

  12. Spotify sued for more than £1bn over songwriter rightspublished at 11:48 GMT 3 January 2018

    The music streaming service is being hit with a legal action which wants damages of $150,000 per song for more than 10,000 tracks.

    California-based Wixen Music Publishing represents artists that include Janis Joplin, The Black Keys (pictured above) and Tom Petty.

    Spotify has been trying to settle a similar civil case brought by songwriters which is on course to being resolved in December.

    But a group that included Wixen has objected to the terms of the $43m settlement, which they argued could yield less than $4 per song.

  13. Rick Hall, whose Muscle Shoals sound defined 60s soul music, dies aged 85published at 11:15 GMT 3 January 2018

    One of the most influential American record producers of the 1960s and 70s, Rick Hall, has died of cancer at the age of 85.

    He founded the FAME studio, creating the soulful "Muscle Shoals" sound with some of the biggest R&B stars of the era, including Wilson Pickett, Otis Redding, Etta James and Aretha Franklin.

    Artists including The Rolling Stones, Joe Cocker and Lynard Skynard also laid down tracks at the famous studio.

    Later, he also promoted country and pop artists like Tom Jones, Paul Anka and the Osmonds.

  14. Each of us streamed 1,036 songs last year...published at 11:01 GMT 3 January 2018

    ...and most of them were by Ed Sheeran.

    UK music fans streamed more music than ever before in 2017 - an astonishing total of 68.1 billion songs.

    That's the equivalent of everyone in the country playing 1,036 tracks, or almost three continuous days of music, on sites like Apple Music and Spotify.

    Most of those songs were apparently by Ed Sheeran - who had four of the Top 10 biggest-selling singles of the year.

    2017 also saw the likes of Dua Lipa, Stormzy, Harry Styles and J Hus achieve the 100,000 sales milestone.

    Trade body the BPI says streaming now accounts for more than half (50.4%) of all music consumption in the UK.

    For goodness sake man! Just tell us...

    Frank Ocean continues his vague messages about whether he will follow up his magnificent Blond album with another LP in 2018.

    He posted the above cryptic pic on his Tumblr page - if you have trouble reading the man's baseball cap, it reads: "IF YOU LIKED 2017, YOU’LL LOVE…2018."

    He also added a cryptic caption that reads “new 18-99.”

    Justin Timberlake has ditched the dancefloor to get back to nature on his first album in five years.

    Man of the Woods is set for release on 2 February, ahead of his return to the Superbowl stage a few days later.

    Watch the preview below which involves campfires, mountains and the wild west.

    "This album is really inspired by my son, my wife, my family, but more so than any other album I've ever written, where I'm from - it's personal," says JT.

    We should point that Justin is in fact from Memphis, no the wild west.

    His actress wife Jessica Biel is spotted in the preview sporting a cowgirl hat and N*E*R*D star Pharrell even pops up at the end to confirm that one of the tracks will be "a smash" and he's generally right about these things.

    The Californian music festival has announced its 2018 lineup and Queen Bey will be making a comeback.

    She pulled out of her headline slot in 2017 while she was pregnant with twins Rumi and Sir Carter.

    Eminem and The Weeknd will also join her as headline acts, while St Vincent, Haim and Cardi B will perform too.

    A pregnant Beyonce last performed at the 2017 Grammy Awards in February last year and was reduced to tears when Adele dedicated her awards to her.

    The US superstar producer - with friends in high places (Drake, Rihanna etc) - has been snapped up by Weight Watchers as their latest high profile member.

    Apparently he'll "freestyle his way to his goals."

    So far, so good as he's "down 20 pounds and ready for more."

    Vegan soup. Check. Lentils. Check.

    We're three days into 2018 and normal service is starting to resume itself once again.
