    The Scots singer-songwriter has recorded a cover of Petty's I Won't Back Down as a "loud shout of support" to people "marching, protesting and standing up for justice and equality".

    She is joined on the record by Pearl Jam's Mike McReady.

    Apparently, Katie performed nearly all the instruments on the recording – including acoustic guitar, bass guitar, keyboards and percussion.

  3. Tidal accused of inflating Beyonce and Kanye West streaming datapublished at 15:35 BST 10 May 2018

    The music streaming app Tidal - which is part-owned by Jay Z - has been accused of inflating audience figures for Beyonce's Lemonade album and The Life of Pablo by Kanye West.

    A Norwegian-language newspaper, external claims the move would have led Tidal to have paid disproportionate royalties to the singers' record companies at the expense of other artists.

    Tidal has denied the allegations, calling them "a smear campaign from a publication that once referred to our employee [chief operating officer Lior Tibon] as an 'Israeli intelligence officer' and our owner as a 'crack dealer'."

    The Cuban-American singer is supporting Taylor on her Reputation tour, which kicked off in Arizona earlier this week, alongside Brit star Charli XCX.

    The experience moved her to compose a tweet in which she questioned whether the teenage schoolgirl she used to be could have imagined playing alongside the pop superstar.

    The tour heads to the UK next month.

    The celebrated musician has re-recorded Talking Heads' 1980 album Remain in Light and has shared her cover of their classic Once In A Lifetime, external.

    She has added new lyrics to each of the songs in African languages, responding to David Byrne's verses.

    She told Rolling Stone, external: "When I went into exile in Paris in 1983, I discovered so much new music, and among them was the song Once in a Lifetime.

    "Initially, it felt strange to me. People said it was rock & roll, but it felt African somehow."

    She will be performing her reinterpretation of Remain in Light at the Southbank Centre in London on 8 June.

    Classic Beach Boys songs like God Only Knows and Sloop John B have been reworked by the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra.

    The new album - which is out 8 June - pairs the Boys' original vocal performances with new symphonic arrangements recorded at Abbey Road Studios in London.

    It follows similar orchestral takes on Roy Orbison and Elvis Presley songs.

    Brian Wilson says: “I always knew the vocal arrangements I did back in the 1960s would lend themselves perfectly for a symphony."

    Craig David has shared a video for a new version of Magic, which includes some bars from rising grime star (and mate of Craig David , scroll down) Yxng Bane.

    "So happy to have Bane jump on this tune," said Craig.

    "To have someone as big in the scene as Bane be on the record is amazing. He has an incredible future, so it’s great to be collaborating".

    The American guitarist is arguably best known for his soundtracks to the likes of Southern Comfort and Paris Texas.

    But now the 71-year-old has returned to his musical roots of gospel and blues.

    "The songs are written by people who will tell you about the kind of life they have and what they hope for and what their problems are," he says. "And that's the great thing about these old songs, you can take it as fact."

    The London-based band's second album Palo Santo comes out on 6 July and, following their track Sanctify, comes a new track If You're Over Me.

    The track features singer Olly Alexander accuses his ex of Jekyll and Hydin' adding You played games and it ended.

    Speaking to our music reporter Mark Savage in April, Olly admitted: "It's quite a petty album.

    "When I listened to it all the way through, I was like, 'Wow, I was so angry!'.

    "But it's good to show that stuff, you know? I think it's human."

    Years & Years are playing at the Roundhouse in London in July.

    The singer and dancer posted a message on Instagram describing in detail her battle with fibroids on her uterus.

    She revealed she had surgery to remove six tumours saying her "confidence as a woman was knocked" after an operation in December to remove the non-cancerous growths.

    The 30-year-old paid tribute to other women with the common condition, describing them as "amazing warriors" who are "not alone".

    She marked her return to fitness with a video of her pole dancing (above).

    "At the time I was completely devastated because I came so close to winning. If I'd have come 10th, I don't think I'd have minded so much. Looking back now though, second is fantastic!"

    Metallica are becoming almost as prolific as Coldplay when it comes to chucking unexpected covers into their live set.

    The metal legends - currently out on their Worldwired tour - touched down in Stockholm earlier this week and paid tribute to Sweden’s finest.

    There's a good reason why Robert normally keeps his mouth shut when he's slapping bass.

    Meanwhile, Abba themselves have seen a massive surge in sales in the US in the wake of the announcement last month they have recorded new songs.

    Collectively, their catalogue notched 6.38 million streams, up from 4.69 million a week earlier.

    The most streamed song is Metallica's favourite.

    Blackpool is clearly becoming some kind of north-western musical powerhouse.

    Following in the footsteps of Will Smith and Britney Spears, Mariah Carey has announced a show in the Lancashire resort on 24 August.

    She has been added to the line-up of the Livewire festival for her only 2018 festival appearance in the UK.

    Mariah will headline the Friday night slot of the festival.

    Gillian Campbell, deputy leader of Blackpool Council, said: “This is absolutely fantastic news and we are thrilled at the prospect of Mariah Carey performing live in Blackpool."

    Remember to pack your sunnies lambs.

    Mark has been talking to Chris Evans on Radio 2 about helping Quincy - who's worked with artists too numerous to mention, so let's just say Michael Jackson for now - celebrate his 85th birthday.

    "He spanned such an incredible era," said Mark. "I've learned so much from him, he's an incredible human being, such a spiritual guy."

    The chart-topping rapper has confirmed she is expecting a baby girl.

    Cardi appeared on Howard Stern's satellite radio station on Wednesday and spoke about her pregnancy, marriage and money.

    "I am having a girl," she said, before revealing she and her fiance, Migo rapper Offset, had already picked out a name.

    "I didn't pick the name so, if you interview my dude, he'll tell you," she said.

    Cardi also told Stern she does not plan to walk down the aisle just yet - because she wants to be able to drink at her wedding.

    A woman has filed a legal action in California alleging she was sexually assaulted at singer Chris Brown's home.

    The legal action, filed by lawyer Gloria Allred, claims the "young woman" was raped several times during a party at Chris Brown's home by rapper Lowell Grissom and was also attacked by another woman.

    According to the action, the alleged assaults happened following a concert in Los Angeles in February 2017.

    Chris Brown has not responded to the legal action.

    The bandmate and brother of missing Frightened Rabbit singer Scott Hutchison say they have had "no news to report" since he disappeared on Wednesday morning.

    The 36-year-old musician has not been seen since he left the Dakota Hotel in South Queensferry, near Edinburgh.

    Writing on Twitter, Grant told fans: "Your support so far has been incredible and all we ask is you keep him in your thoughts, keep an eye out and keep sharing his picture online."

    The tweet follows a post on Wednesday, which said Scott "may be in a fragile state and may not be making the best decisions for himself right now".

    Police now say they want to talk to two people spotted on the Forth Road Bridge.

    Chief Inspector Alan Carson said: "We are extremely keen to speak with them.

    "Similarly, we would also urge others to come forward if they have any other information relevant to our investigation."

    He added: "I'd like to reiterate our appeal to Scott directly, to make contact with family, friends, or with police and let us know where you are."

    Ed Sheeran (who has just kicked off his sure-to-be-lucrative UK and Ireland tour), Rita Ora and Calvin Harris have all jumped up the Sunday Times annual Rich List.

    Ed made £28m last year - taking his total estimated wealth to £80m.

    That puts him at 35th on the list of the UK's richest musicians, with Sir Paul McCartney on top with a fortune of £820m.

    Calvin Harris is new entry in the top 20 on £140m, up £20m.

    Rita Ora - who has released a single album six years ago - has joined the list of the wealthiest young musicians (under the age of 30), with £16m.
