'Artist of the Future' Cian Cotte

Shop windows host local artists

Empty shops are being transformed into artistic havens in Chelmsford as the town tries to attract new customers.

Dormant retail units in Chelmsford are becoming art galleries as the town bids to draw in more shoppers.

Work by Tracey Jennings on display

The 'ART in Shops' will see vacant spaces feature the work of a number of local artists. A variety of different arts forms, from glass-based media to commercial illustration and textured acrylic techniques will be on display.

The exhibition is a collaboration between the High Chelmer shopping centre and Chelmsford Borough Council's Arts Development team.

Cian Cottee is one of the artists featured. The A-level student, deemed an 'Artist of the Future' in a recent Essex County Council project, is showcasing her 'Sculpture and Projection' installation.

This piece focuses on the relationship with human form and the environment.

The exhibition runs throughout April.
