To many people, the North West represents the Industrial Revolution - the textile mills of Lancashire, the once mighty ports of Manchester and Liverpool, the canals, railways stations and civic buildings built from the huge wealth of private patrons. But while the Industrial Revolution produced several of the region's man-made wonders, there are surprises too, such as the profound spirituality of Furness Abbey, the Roman amphitheatre of Chester and the brash self-confidence of the Blackpool Tower. Seven Man Made Wonders of the North West is presented by Simon O'Brien, the Liverpool-based actor, well known for his role in Brookside. Simon writes and broadcasts on environmental issues, and also has a keen interest in the man-made infrastructure of the North West.
