| Station Staff | |
Here are the people who gather the news, organise the guests, answer the phones, and keep the station on air. No presenters here. They can be found on the presenter page. | | | | | | | | Alan Webber is our reporter based in the Harrogate Office. He's an experienced journalist who's also happy as a presenter, but currently Alan spends his time reporting stories from Harrogate, Ripon and the Dales.
Alan joined the radio station in 1998 after deciding to move "up north". He previously spent four years working as a newsreader and reporter in commercial radio on the South Coast. | | | | | | | | | | Jamie Searle is BBC Radio York's engineer, responsible for keeping the station on air. A keen cyclist, Jamie was responsible for the creation of the RadioBike(TM) which has been used on many occasions to help reporters beat York's notorious traffic.
Away from work he has been found helping gardeners in Cuba and cycling in the Dales. | | | | | | | | | | Andrew Barton has joined the news production team at BBC Radio York. He also produces the Dr Rock show.
A frustrated blues guitarist, Andrew recently allowed his creative side to bloom while spending some time making trails for Radio 4.
| | | | | Matt Watkinson began his broadcasting career with the BBC in North Yorkshire in the late 1980s after a lifetime (it seemed) as a long-haired DJ in a rock club.
After spending some time with BBC Radio Cleveland and BBC Radio Humberside he returned to Radio York in the 1990s where he finally got the job as District Producer for Scarborough. | | | | | | | | | | Neil Foster joined the station in 1999 on The Sunday Show, looking after the VIP visitors. He's Worked behind the scenes on just about every Radio York programme and presented the Helpline / ActionLine between 2000 and 2003
Away from work, Neil spends a lot of time performing with local theatre and musical groups, along with fellow Yorkies Adam Tomlinson and Dougie Weake. | | | | | | | | | | Matthew Pells joined us in the Autumn of 1999 following eight years at commercial radio stations in the county. After three years presenting North Yorkshire Sport, he went on to present many of our main programmes, including BBC Breakfast and Drivetime.
Now he is the stations Programmes Producer, working across the weekday output co-ordinating the output of Jules & Julia, The Jonathan Cowap Phone In and the Jerry Scott Show. | | | | | | | | | | Fay Yeomans has been working for in the Scarborough studio since 1986. And despite her long service with Radio York, she still enjoys her work. "It's a great job, especially as it allows me to reflect what's happening in my home town and the surrounding area."
Fay currently works as producer of the Jerry Scott show. | | | | | | | | | | Dougie Weake joined the BBC after being made redundant from a wonderful job with the French Government as a Food and Wine Advisor (well you wouldn't resign would you?). Dougie currently works with Jules and Julia going around the County in the Radio Car (aka the Duggy Buggy).
An acomplished Percussionist, he's toured with people such as Paul Daniels, Joe Longthorne, Cannon and Ball and has even played in Buckingham Palace for the Queen and Prince Charles. | | | | | | | | | | Elizabeth Tomlinson joined Radio York as a part time receptionist after working for Barclay's bank for 25 years. She's also worked as a book-keeper at a local Secondary school and a prison auxiliary. When she's not welcoming visitors to the station, Elizabeth also works as a betting cashier and sings in three choirs. To sum up she's a very busy lady. | | | | | | | | | | Mike Kemp is Radio York's Ryedale reporter. Mike joined the BBC 10 years ago after a long spell working in national newspapers. More recently he became known as BBC Breakfast's 'Grumpy Producer'.
An experienced journalist and news producer, Mike is passionate about upholding high standards of accuracy and integrity. Away from work Mike enjoys walking and produced a series on walks in North Yorkshire.
