The pirate years Although Jerry may not look the kind of person to sail under the skull and crossbones, he is one of a select band of broadcasters who worked on the most famous British pirate radio station of all time - Radio Caroline. During Autumn 1989 Jerry presented Radio Caroline's "drivetime" programme as well as as the weekend breakfast shows. Throughout his months at sea, Jerry claims claims never to have suffered from sea sickness (a claim that we've so far been unable to verify)! He says it was "a boyhood dream come true" to work on Radio Caroline. Jerry's ealiest memories of pirate radio came in the mid 1960's when off-shore stations, such as Scarborough based Radio 270, Caroline and London were in their hayday. So where did this fascination with radio come from? Well Jerry blames his parents because, as an infant, they would leave a portable radio by his cot in an attempt to lull him to sleep. |
