I have been a journalist in papers and radio for more years than I care to mention. I daresay, though, a few of my colleagues will take great delight in reminding me that during that time there must have been at least ten Frank Sinatra farewell tours, Tracy Barlow was still only a wicked glint in Ray Langton's eyes when that career began, and vinyl and typewriters were the technology of the day.
But it's the kind of job where you don't really notice time passing by - well, that is until you realise that ther person listening patiently to your lecture on how Brotherhood of Man changed the tone of modern music forever has quietly slipped off to sleep!
Soulie These days perhaps the most hurtful thing you can say to me is Marvin who? Since coming out on BBC Radio Stoke as a closet soulie - life has been such fun. Getting to play the music of my youth every Friday night is an indulgence that is hard to describe in words - to have people who like to be there with me is awesome. Together we are re-discovering some great music and encouraging fans old and new. You're welcome to join in too every Friday between 7-9 pm.
Production & presentation The rest of the week you can find me here in my office at Radio Stoke - I regularly sit in on the Stuart George programme as the presenter and enjoy some tough debates with our listeners.
I am also on hand to help the rest of the station team with anything and everything from training to nagging and loads of things in between.
Home Off duty I like to be at home with my husband and family, admiring the Staffordshire Moorlands and trying to improve my technique as a bellringer.
I hate washing dishes and I have been called the Queen of Clutter - no one's perfect are they?
Mary presents a live two hour Northern Soul and Motown extravaganza - playing all the favourite dance tracks from the 60's and 70's.
There's an album of the week; and a listener gets to play their favourite top three. Marvellettes or Velvettes? - these are the questions to which there are several right answers.
7.05 pm every Friday
