Simon Pryde
Simon Pryde Simon Pryde is a member of BBC Radio Newcastle's sports team, covering everything from Premiership Football to top notch Cricket.

From Alnwick to Australia, and back to the North East, Simon is a self confessed media luvvy.
Simon Pryde
Place of birth: Alnwick, Northumberland.
Favourite place or view in the North East: It would have to be from my Mum's place, near Berwick where I grew up. Look one way and you can see across Kyloe Woods to the coast and Holy Island. Spin 180 degrees and there's a spectacular view across Doddington to the Cheviot Hills.
First record you bought: I seem to remember buying a Captain Sensible single, "Snakes And Ladders", in the early 80's. It was rubbish! The first album I remember buying was "The Works" by Queen.
Previous jobs: All in the media...CFM (Carlisle), Metro Radio, SBS Radio in Sydney, Australia, Sun FM, Century Radio and Tyne Tees Television. Now I've made it to the Beeb!
Good or bad memories: From work? Well, working in Sydney, Australia, during the 2000 Olympics stands out. But I'll always remember my first ever bulletin on air (I was at CFM in Carlisle at the time)...the top story was an idecent assault in Cockermouth. Nowadays, covering Sunderland stories (eg, Mick McCarthy's arrival) is always a bit of a buzz for me as a Sunderland supporter.
Best thing about working in radio: Apart from meeting good looking pop star babes, overall I just enjoy listening to the radio so much that working in the industry is still a dream for me...and I'm not really sure how it all happened. You get to speak to all sorts of people, get invited to interesting events and generally have a lot of privileges which you often take for granted.
Most interesting person you have interviewed for radio: Dannii Minogue was interesting and good looking! Tony Blair was neither!! Often the most interesting people aren't necessarily big names.
Best thing about your show: It's all about North East sport, and I love sport!
Person you would most enjoy being stuck in a lift with: I interviewed the Newcastle Women's Football Team a short while ago and I suppose they'd be quite good company! If I was stuck in a lift with Alan Shearer perhaps I could eventually break through his media "defences". Oh, and Susi Dent from Countdown's Dictionary Corner.
Favourite party game: Red nut, white nut, brown nut, currant...don't ask!
Where you are when you get most of your inspiration or creative thoughts: Often when I'm driving, or when I'm just about to go to sleep...and then when I wake up I've forgotten them.
Funny sayings you like to use: Coming from Berwick, there are a few that my friends and I use...many of which are unrepeatable, especially one about candles! But I suppose "boilers" and "nay ladge"...again, don't ask!
Proudest achievement: Hmmm...reaching the semi-final on Countdown? No. Being mascot at Roker Park and leading the team out? Maybe. Getting a degree? Nah, I was lucky! Landing my current job would probably be it, although I'm always frightened they'll soon find me out!
Where you like to go for quiet moments: Old Trafford during a match!
Memories of teachers at school: The first teacher I remember was Mrs Tait, and then Miss MacKenzie at Lowick Primary. At Berwick Middle, Mr Taylor the craft teacher used to frighten me to death...while at Berwick High our chemistry teacher, Dr Lees, should have been named Dr Cleese - such was his similarity to Basil Fawlty.
Favourite playground game or rhyme: You can't beat British Bulldog, can you? I'll always remember the time Glynn Jamieson 'scrambled' all his marbles!
Any habits, annoying or otherwise: Yeah, I always ignore the last question!
