Favourite place or view in the North East: Can't decide between Bamburgh Castle, the Gateshead Millennium Bridge, the mouth of the Tyne or Durham Castle!
First record you bought: The Beatles LP, "Please Please Me".
Previous jobs: I trained as a Geography teacher and taught in Newcastle and London. I've worked as a news reporter at Tyne Tees TV, a science reporter for public broadcasting stations across America and as a presenter of Pebble Mill at One on BBC1. I have also worked as a producer of the BBC 2 documentary series, The Task of Mankind, a presenter of BBC Radio 4's Woman's Hour, and presented live orchestral programmes and various music programmes on BBC Radio 2.
Good memories: Filming in Ethiopia after Live Aid and seeing children beginning to recover.
Bad memories: Filming in Ethiopia and seeing children still dying despite all the aid.
Best thing about working in radio: Its constantly changing and challenging and there's a good relationship with our listeners.
Most interesting person you have interviewed for radio: Too many great "unknown heroes" to name one. I love meeting unassuming people who get on with life and achieve the most astonishing things, often through remarkable personal courage. The world is full of them and they make life worth living.
Best thing about your show: Variety really IS the spice of life...and it's fun.
Where you are when you get most of your inspiration or creative thoughts: Driving home after work!
Proudest achievement: Learning to ice skate in my 30s!
Where you go for quiet moments: Into the garden.
Memories of teachers at school: Too many good ones to list - I loved the ones who knew how to correct without crippling your confidence and made the painfully shy pupils believe in themselves and their future.
